Thread: Do you speed thru roadworks????

Not many appreciate or understand the importance of keeping to the posted speed limit and some morons never will! Having spent a few years as a contractor (not now) working on busy sections of various roads just demonstrates how many inconsiderate drivers are out there. Apart from the obvious and potentially dangerous mix of machinery and people corralled in a small work area, it is far from funny being hit by flying dust, sand and bluemetal from some arrogant, thoughtless driver whose patience span matches his IQ. It is one of the few occasions that the boys in blue are a welcome sight.

I remember my days on the roads like a vivid nightmare that it was 40C air temp at least 60C even more laying bitumen just when you thought it was safe to take a breather along comes speed racer at a billion miles an hour trying to save 5mins of his trip.

Un/Fornunately I wasn't as dipolomatic as I should have been and told it how it was, can't understand why I don't have that job still

I used to live in SA. There you have to slow down to 25km/h when going through a work site. That's safer then anywhere else I have been.

Imagine what the fine would be for driving through a work site there doing 120km/h ops: ops:

Most people on the road these days are to focused on getting to where there going instead of enjoying the trip, although I have been known to have a lead foot in my time but that seems a life time ago now. Having kids seems to slow everything down. :wink:

Over here in the UK major roadworks will have speed cameras,say road works go on for 2 miles then there would be 6 cameras,each one records your front reg plate,after you have passed all cameras a computer works out your avreage speed,if you are found out to be speeding,then you are awarded 3 penatly points,and a fine,when you get upto 12 points ie 4 speeding convictions you get an auto ban............so in answer to your question.............No deffo not :wink: 8O

Oh the joy's of working on the public roads.... when we have to do this it is to clean up someone's mess.. :roll: I have been abused buy motorists for parking the Vehicle to protect the scene (my partner and myself.. 8O ) had equipment runover, and seen some people drive up banks and down into ditches to get past and try to "rubber neck" at 100+ kph through the middle of a scene....

travel at the posted speed (mostly) but get ****ed at the signs left up and no one working, company should be fined for that.

Agree with HSVRangie....if they were stricter on pulling the signs down when no work was being carried out (or changes to conditions) I think people would become more compliant.

Driving from Sydney to Melbourne you can pass through any number of such areas and after the first one or two without activity or any reason you become complacent. Bit like the kid who cried wolf.

If there are guys working and/or changes to the conditions...not a problem and they should be enforced strictly, even posting camera if necessary.

The other day there was a 5km section of road on my way home posted down to 40kms per hour. Now THAT seems to take ages when travelling at that speed. I was on it at 2:00 in the morning. Bugger all traffic on the road. No road crews at work (all tucked up tight in bed, no doubt). Decided to take it easy anyway (60kph) and slowed down just in time to avoid the police speed camera.

Blatant revenue raising ? Yep.

The problem with leaving speed restrictions in place on unmanned roadworks areas (especially where the road is not torn up etc) is that people get blase (spelling?) about it and then tend to ignore them when it really matters.
