The thing is that Australia is where they come from. And, we put up with is because it may offend a minority group. It only takes one generation to go from immigrants who love the freedoms in their new country to bitterness against the majority and no sense of place in their children.

Being old, I do remember that, but I think it was for a more "moderate" reason? I think in those days, it was more the threat of verbal abuse than physical harm or death.

Within 15 mins drive of my home are three mosques, two Buddhist temples and dozens of Christian churches. Not a problem.

Islamic State is about as representative of Islam as the Klu Klux Klan is of Christianity, that is, not at all. Thats why the imans are issuing fatwas against IS.

ISs real threat is against its neighbours in Iran, Syria and Iraq, not the west, but if we attack them we will certainly become their targets.

I think the thing that is forgotten in this argument is tolerance. Tolerance from both sides. However having traveled through the middle east there was no tolerance of our western clothing, especially the women, our cultural beliefs and sense of fun but we being tolerant people acted in a manner that would not cause offence.

The problem with many muslims in this country is they want to bring that type of intolerance to this country and change the fabric of the society that they chose to come to.

If you come to a country you adopt the laws, customs and way of life of that country. That's what my parents did when they emigrated from Italy after the war. They did not come here and say that you had to change menus in restaurants, or not wear certain types of clothing etc.

If you want to see what type of people are living in this country and what they want it to become, have a look at the footage of the people in Lakemba and Belmore dancing in the street after the 9-11 attack and the ones now flying the ISIS flags.

They are entitled to their beliefs but supporting any organisation that promotes genocide and the killing of innocent people simply because they do not believe in what they do is not on in this country.

My family came here because they wanted to be part of something that was good not to change something they see as bad.

This thread is a minefield.

I agree with you first point and with IS not being representative of Islam. My concerns are:

• IS's immediate threat is against its neighbours in Iran, Syria and Iraq. Who is next? And who is after that?
• What human rights would there be under IS rule?
• How can we stand aside and allow genocide in the name of "not becoming their targets"?
