Monday of the June long weekend 2005 we drove out in the Defender on our way to Adelaide and made it 130km and the clutch chucked it in. :(
2 1/2 hours to drive back into town in 3rd gear :thumbsdown:
In the old Stage 1 floating up the highway at a comfortable rate of knots (100+-) with a VG Valiant on a hired car float behind. Came over a crest and the traffic was stopped. Hit the brake pedal and not much happened. Armco to the left, oncoming traffic to the right and a Suzuki Sierra in the firing line. Clamped the seat cushion more than firmly between my ask cheeks and prayed. The look in the Zook drivers eyes after she'd smelt the smoke and then looked in her mirror to see how close I'd pulled up was priceless or at least it would have been if my heart and breathing were in their normal rhythm. The Gods were smiling on me that day.

I recall having about a tonne of firewood on board & heading up to a right handed bend in the gravel road when a log truck came flying the other way around it forcing me into the culvert as I headed into the corner waaay too fast. Useless brakes:mad:. I really thought I was going to die in a horrible rollover, as I was so used to the series 3's & in the panic thought I was still in one. She went around the corner with just the hint of the rear end breaking away.
Permanent 4wd - I fell in love with it that day :)
Pulling up to a stop sign which was on a slight down slope.Sat there in the 2a watching the telent walking past:D Not realizing my foot wasn't pushing the brake pedal hard enough and rolling into the car in front!:blush:
The silly thing about is the car in front just drove away!:wacko:
Just change clutchless, I've been driving my dunga for about 6 days (4 before I left to NSW and 2 since back) now with no clutch, start in low first and work your way up and down:DQuote:

!!!! roads were pretty tough some of the way so was 2nd high or 2nd low!!!

I once used my series 3 shorty as an anchor point for my tirfor, to reef a twin cab hi-lux off the concrete block batter, on the end of a storm water pipe. He had lost control on a clay patch after a small rain shower and 8000lb winch on the front,,useless for working backwards. Payed me, $ 10 for the effort, while i got to ogle his daughter,:eek:, strutting around in her bikini,,:twisted::D
