Thankfully, it is a question being studied by the Worlds scientists, Bob

It has been said that we don't have a food production issue, but a food distribution issue. We dont need tomatos with octopus genes. There are more than enough technologies in existance already.
    Keyline plowing
    Hydroponics
    Aquaponics
    Permaculture
    Biodynamic farming.
More artificial fertilizers and GMO are the opposite of a solution.
Rebuild and strengthen the soil structure and bacteria and the desert WILL bloom!
A compost heap, worm farm and a decent aquaponics set up is self sustaining and can provide abundant food from the artic to the Central desert. Add a solar still and you can purify the 'seed' water for the system no matter what its quality.
    Cheers, BDave.

    But Dave...
Putting the Octopus genes into the food solves the distribution problem...

    the answer is yes.

when the chips are down , our worlds financiers will invest in whatever technology is necessary for survival.

whether you like the result or not will not be of any consequence.

Over here in Africa the only problem is Africa.

It would seem that some African cultures just cannot get past pastoral subsistence farming. They can't get past livestock as an indication of wealth and not a SOURCE of wealth through trade.

Sad to say, but the rest of the world will continue to feed Africa for another 500 years.
