OK I’m at a loss, I’m on my 3rd Landy and not one of them has ever leaked, not one drop but you lot now have me paranoid.
Now every time I back out of my driveway and see a puddle, I get out to see if it’s oil or just water from the A/C.
If it doesn't leak oil, does that mean it’s not running right? 8O
Cheers and thanks for nothing

Oh dear, I know it's British (as was I once in a previous life) but does that mean my new investment in a td5 will leak as much as my trusty old V8 ??

No, not all Land Rovers leak (most old ones do, to the point where people say if it isnt leaking there is somethin wrong with it). Mine doesnt leak, it did when new, but the previous owner had them all fixed under the used car warranty that he got with it. The paid for some he paid for some. Since buying it, the only leak i have had to fix is the steering box, but it was knackered inside, needed new bearings and everything, the leak was the Land Rovers way of notifying me of what was happening inside, it was talking to me. Actually folks, the Rangie had the reverse problem.
When I first got the Rangie, I was in the process of making an amateur rail video. I had been working on it, on and off as time would permit, for about 2 years. The video covers the rail line between Brisbane and Casino and concentrates on the spiral loop in the Border Range.
To get to the loop, I would come in from Beaudesert, following the rail line up into the range.
The railway goes under the mountains at the border while the road climbs up a steep grade to a gap in the range on the border at a Tick Inspection point.
There is a stop sign right at the top of the climb and I had been that way a good few times in both Disco with no problems.
The first time I went that way in the Rangie, it was just before dawn and as I pulled up at the stop sign a thick fog drifted past me.
I quickly pulled off the road, turned the engine off, got out and inspected the Rangie. Popped the bonnet and there was still a bit of smoke drifting out from under the Rangie. At this point my heart missed a beat and my pants changed colour but I could not find anything wrong so I continued on and had no more problems.
As soon as I got back, I went to Bruce Lynton LR and they checked out the Rangie and found nothing and said they would check it out with LR in Britain.
A week later, climbed up the same hill, stopped and the cloud of smoke over took me at the stop sign again, pulled off to the side but left the motor running this time. Got out and went to the back and again heart skipped a beat and pants changed colour as I saw heaps of white smoke coming out of both exhaust pipes. As I was not parked in a safe spot, I moved the Rangie to another spot and got out to find the smoking had gone.
Back to Bruce Lynton and this time they had an answer. LR had informed them that there was too much oil in the new engines and the level had to be lowered slightly. Next service that was done and no more smoke.
As to whether there is any oil at all in there now, is another question but this much I know, my laundry bill has fallen.
Cheers
PS. BTW that is one interesting bit of country and well worth the drive.
If you are travelling between Sydney and Brisbane, it will take you no longer to go via Casino and Beaudesert as it will to go via the gold Coast and you won’t have any where as much traffic.
