Does anyone ever obey the speed limit

Coming back from a GCLRO Club meeting last Thursday night in medium/heavy rain on the M1 North to Brisbane, I was passed by a lowered Toyo/Dato/Mitsu ute with Bling Bling wheels, rubber band tyres doing at least 120+ in the outside lane (110klm limit) in rain which required wipers on speed 2, only to see it 15k up the road in the table drain,rear first, I presume he had to brake and it did a 120 deg :( they were out standing in the rain,I just pootled past in the left lane sitting on 95kph which I considered best safe speed in the conditions in a constant 4x4.

It's the same on the highway. There is the odd speedster that flies past over the limit but it's generally a mix of tailgaters and slow-pokes.

Needless to say I think we are blessed with having the worst drivers in Australia which would be awesome if it was a competition and there was a cool prize. But it's not and there isn't so it's not really that good at all.:(

Adelaide drivers?...I've driven there on several occasions,....compared to Melbourne, you are in heaven.

I know we should drive to conditions,but would anyone do this with a line of 15 cars and 5 semi's behind you?

If i had to do this for whatever reason,i would pull over and let them pass.

It was bad with a loaded TD5,as the dual lanes often appeared with a hill,and i had no hope of getting past.

The D4 has no worries:)

I haven't driven in Melbourne for years so can't comment on that, but I have driven in Adelaide on & off for most of my life and was there recently.

Compared with Perth drivers ...................... Adelaide has no problems at all. ;)

I lived in Melbourne for 17 years before returning to Adelaide 3 years ago and when it comes to congestion/traffic, Adelaide is an easy place to get around compared to Melbourne but the driving is a different story. On that we'll have to agree to disagree :D

I'm trying very hard not to break the limit, since I have a few points up in questionable circumstances which I won't bore you with, but its hard some times with the continual changes in the posted speed limit to know what the limit actually is. They should reduce the number of variations in the speed limit to make it easier to comply.
I always slow for roadworks limits, as several traffic controllers have been killed in Queensland in recent years by people speeding through roadworks, and get amazed at the number of people who speed past.
As for visibility, in the Defender I'm driving around in a very visible shiny white cube, so I'm a sitting duck if I break the limit.
Besides, the Defender likes to amble along doing 100 km/h which is 2000 revs in sixth. Its very happy like that.

Hahaha... I was dumbfounded on many of my trips to QLD that when it rained everyone pulled over! ) especially up Noosa way...
