I normally sit on 100km/h-115km/h on highways and find I am always getting overtaken. I drive between Armidale and Singleton quite a bit and a lot of it is one lane and it outstanding some of the risks people take when overtaking especially when there are signs saying that there is an overtaking lane coming up.
A speed limit is just that a law that has no logic to it. As in most laws it doesn't take into account all the various conditions. Do I speed no I drive to the conditions. If that means 200km plus in the right conditions I will do that speed. But if not I will do 40 km even if the limit is higher. What we need is better training but to be honest some people should not be on the road. The long roads in NT and WA, Queensland are the best wouldn't do that speed in some other roads. The other day was headed to a mate's property near Warragal. Freeway driving traffic very heavy got hit up the arse buy an Idiot driver. No damage to the rangie. When traffic cleared as in later no reason that road is not safe at 160km. It is the same as traffic light intersections peak hours no problem but 2 am in the morning give me a break. We the drivers are able to make decisions at lot's of other uncontrolled intersections. Just have them flashing yellow. After a certain time.

I think the problem is how we get our driving licence. A parent can do all the tutoring. But before this even starts that child has sat in the back of the car watching and learning from mum or dad. How quick do kids learn. We have all seen really bad drivers out there. If they have children and teach them to drive, what will be the outcome? So should parents have to do a driving test before teaching children on L's.
Not to mention that you get your drivers licence at say 18 and you never get tested again until 85. That's way too long. Image if we all had to go for a test again in two weeks. How many of us would feel confident of passing? I'm sure all drivers think they are good. It is very easy to develop bad habits. But having to do a few driving tests along the way would make people at least think on the road. After all driving can kill.
Driving is taken as a granted, some drivers are really good, some well we've all seen them. The better we test and teach and improve standards, then we may be able to increase the speed limit.
Won't help defender drivers though we are pretty much going flat out on a freeway as is.

How would you go about challenging a speeding fine to ensure that you don't "move on to an enforcement process", wear the demerit points, and/or pay for legal representation.
This penalty notice was issued incorrectly in Victoria. Not sure of the circumstances of the offence, but surely this ticket couldn't be enforceable.
I obey the speed limit at all times ! Especially on the bike !
What I can't understand is why Qld transport / QPOL keep sending me very expensive photos of my car and bike. I didn't ask for them. I already have photos.
It's a bit like those people that used to go around tables in restaurants selling roses.....
This is one of my pet peevs - people who drive 5-10kmh under the speed limit then maintain their speed through roadworks & other low speed zones. I pass these peanuts on the open highway stretches only to have them fly past in a low speed zone (usually where there is a dual carriageway). Then I'm stuck behind them at 90-95kmh when you leave the zone and are back on a single lane.Quote:

The Western Freeway upgrades here in Brisbane are a classic example. A long stretch has been signposted at 60kmh for months now with random exiting points for works trucks along the median. Most people just totally ignore this and carry on at 80kmh or more. Many of the works trucks themselves are guilty of this as for some time they have had to drive all the way to the southern end of the works stretch and do a U-turn under the freeway to get back up to the main works area. I routinely have one up my clacker where the 60 zone starts just after I've passed four or five slowcoaches who couldn't seem to get up to speed in the preceding 80 zone. I merge into the left hand lane and the truck followed by most of the slowpokes then drive past on the downhill stretch at about 90. Go figure.
Be a good way to pay for the road upgrades - I could only imagine the number of cars getting impounded under "hoon" laws for speeding in a roadworks zone if they did it:DQuote:
