Does anyone ever obey the speed limit

I struck this on the Dandedong-Frankston road and on the Peninusla link. The traffic was doing about 10 kph under the posted speed limit, yet you get people doing the same speed in the right lane. So much for the signs that read "KEEP LEFT unless Overtaking"!
So I want to pass the slower cars, but can't as the car in front is also doing the lower speed, and totally oblivious as to any vehicle behind them that might like to pass. For what seemed like ages, they finally wake up and try to speed up and get into the left lane. Problem though, their under powered little milk crate doesn't have enough power to increase speed ( those little 3 cyl jobs) Funny how this happened 3 times in one trip with different drivers, and all in little milk crates
Also notice a lot that parents taking their kids out driving on L plates don't know or teach the "Keep left unless overtaking" rule, as they will drive the entire stretch on the right hand lane ( although they are doing the max speed limit, it's just teaching and installing this attitude from day one into the beginner driver)

Speed limiters work the same as most cruise control by limiting throttle only. They can run over the set speed on a down grade.

Volvo and quite possibly other Euro big bangers, apply the engine brake if speed exceeds +10kph of the set cruise speed. The brake stays on until set speed is regained.

And later European buses can be adjusted by the driver so that the speed is 101% constant, up or down hill. Any hill...

I have noticed the Woolies trucks are now limited to 90! At least it means the Thursday death match two of them used have no longer happens.

I used to be a bad speeder as a kid... Went everywhere as fast as the vehicle I was driving at the time would go.. (Was done at the age of 17 doing 110mph in a 1964 Series 2 V8 Land Rover)... The cop who pulled me over couldn't stop laughing and did me at 98mph so I didn't loose my licence! I then slowed up as I got older, but up until recently still had a heavy right foot! Now I'm part of a 'Road Crash Rescue' brigade and have witnessed two speed related fatalities over the last year, along with loads of accidents to do with speed and general stupidity! We even had to jump over the armco and clear of one accident scene as a drunk driver careered thru the stop/go bats and into our rescue!
So with that in mind, I now obey the speed limit.. even when responding. My wife calls me 'Miss Daisy' because of it! Do I care.. No. Do I arrive alive... Yup!
SA now has a 25kph speed limit past all emergency services vehicles, which is great. There's a lot who don't know that tho yet!
As for stop signs... Stop means stop.. I stop, count to 3, then move off. :)

I see this ALL the time. I've even seen Driving instructor cars, "instructing" learner drivers, sitting in the right hand lane. When I learned to drive, we were always told to "keep to the left".
And, on freeways, ya might encounter these uncaring drivers sitting on 10ks below the speed limit, often in the RH lane, but sometimes on a single lane road, and if ya wanna overtake them safely (& be on the wrong side of the road for the minimum possible time) it's pretty hard to avoid going "over", thereby risking getting "done".

In metro areas I generally stick to the limit but on open roads when overtaking I get past as quickly as poss and return to the left as soon as it's safe to do so.
Bugger the stupid laws saying you mustn't exceed some limit because they think all speed is dangerous, it's much more dangerous to sit on the right when an oncoming vehicle may be coming towards you.
It seems though that most drivers I encounter on the country roads have absolutely no idea of how to overtake safely.
And I just love those that creep past and then pull across you and take their foot off immediately. :mad:

Generally speaking, I don't speed. I usually drive to the posted speed limit. I have had just the one speeding fine so not saying I never speed either. I think the reason why we have so many people driving over the speed limit by under 10km/h is the fact it's just a fine and no demerits (here in WA - not sure on other states). I've got friends who just seem happy to drive around 10km over the limit and they just pay the fines like they don't exist as there's no chance of loosing your licence over it
