I rarely stick to speed limits. It depends on where I am but in a 100 or 110 zone I will usually add about 8 to 10 kays.
In a 60 zone I will usually do 65. I do however when in a 40 zone stick to the limit, especially school zones.
Well, I drive B Doubles and Road Trains for a living, and I don't speed :angel:
The prime mover is speed limited to 100 (actually varies a bit depending on the drive tyres make, model and level of wear). However, the speed limiter does not mechanically prevent the vehicle from exceeding the set speed, it merely stops it from accelerating beyond it.
So these yoyos caught doing 140ks + on the Hume haven't actually "tampered" with the limiter, they're just letting gravity do the work. Utter stupidity, and they deserve everything that gets thrown at them. Because of them, the tolerance we used to get for running off hills at 105-110 has been severely eroded.
What irritates me, is the car drivers who do 80ks everywhere, UNTIL they get to an overtaking lane, then they do 100+. The end result, is that trucks end up passing them in much more dangerous situations, since it is the only way to get past. The other ones are the caravan drivers who accelerate as you start passing them. Apparently, one of the caravan magazines so-called expert driving instructors wrote an article saying that you should accelerate (slightly) to "pull the van straight" whilst you're being passed! FFS, if you have to "pull the van straight" it hasn't been setup properly in the first place, and shouldn't be on the highway at all! :censored:

I think the caravan speeding up a bit when being overtaken by a heavy vehicle might be to try and compensate for the deflection of the van by the wind turbulence generated by the passing heavy vehicle . Though mind you some caravan drivers are an absolute pain .

the speed that i travel at is dependant on the time, weather, traffic, vehicle and current situation of the road.
the speed limit is just a meaningless number on a sign that does not take into account any of the above factors.
