The Seinfield post is still up as far as I can see, no one has deleted it yet and as long as it stays a bit of harmless humour without vitriol attached then chances are its ok. Still that is for others collectively to decide.

Mick is correct to date no thread that is deemed to controversial for GC has been moved to CA, why not? To be frank to date there has been no real discussion between Mods about doing that because there has been few threads that fall into that grouping. That may or may not change in the future after an actual discussion on moving threads to CA takes place.

Is CA quite? Yes in comparison to the old Soapbox section or the various political and religious debates in GC yes it is. But I reckon that is because plenty of people are gun shy of the often crazy arguments that got out of hand and don't want to go through that again and think that is what the new CA section might be like. However to date that is not what has been happening and the discussions have been very good and everyone is acting in a mature and respectful way, no one has tried to smash anyone and there have been no heated nasty words. Will we allow robust debate? The answer is yes. Will we allow nasty personal attacks? The answer is no.

Anyway, CA is hurting no one and Mick and I give our time to keep it going, if some don't like the idea then stay away from it, but how about stopping the whining about a section you can't even see unless you ask to join. Fair enough?
    Cheers,
    Terry

You really don't get the point do you? I couldn't care less about the Seinfield post. If people want to talk about Seinfeild, good for them. Me, I can't stand him. What do I do about it? Nothing. I don't open the thread. I am not going to open the thread and whinge and tell people what to think. In your post you said words to the effect of non 4wd related crap. Seinfeild is related to 4wd? Don't think so, but hey, I might be wrong. If people want to talk politics let them. Just don't open the thread, because it is becoming obvious that some people have issues with other people having an opinion. There will always be trolls on forums - even in posts relating to 4wd, doesn't matter what the subject is.

Chill people, Chill. Live and let live.

    Cheers,
    Tom.

I certainly do get the point

General Chat = "Almost anything goes, have a look and drop in a few lines. Think of it as a campfire chat with the kids around."

Seinfeld - No not 4wd related but meets the General Chat rules unlike a lot of posts in the past, that to include what you left off when you quoted me "...........that gets put up in a trolling gesture to try and provoke arguments from others".

    Cheers

Thought it was about time I bumped this thread back up to the top to remind everyone there is a separate section you can subscribe to where politics, religion and anything that is contentious and beyond what should be discussed in General Chat can be discussed openly.

Given the heat in most of the Eco threads I reckon its no longer just Politics and religion that are the main topics that cause angst and disharmony in GC.

This has been mentioned previously but I and others in the new Current Affairs section find it a little amusing that these topics can be discussed openly and with very differing opinions in CA and to date without any cat fights and insults, yet that is not the case in GC.

So if you want to enter into mature discussions without the arguments about topics that usually cause hostility and angst then it might be time to subscribe to the Current Affairs section.
    Cheers,
    Terry

I know the last few threads I have put up have got a bit heated, and I just want to say to everybody I don't post things in the hope they turn into a members insulting each other. The strain on defence force families post took a turn I was not expecting,I was just trying to highlight how some defence families live, but it morphed into something else completely. If what I am posting is not appropriate please let me know.

Terry, My impression from your comments is that the few members who caused most of the angst on the general topics area moved to the closed area, so there probably exists a "love in" and that is why the level of conflict has declined.

There are some members that cannot seem to help themselves and still post contentious topics such as eco stuff in the general area, and IMHO they should be immediately moved to the "love-in" area so that the respondents can all agree with each other and not be challenged by others with facts that may disagree with their point of view.

I have enjoyed the peace of the general forums since the restricted area was established and initially there was nothing in the general area that caused angst from diehards like me who hate what I see as misinformation, propaganda, etc being spread and have this desire to correct the information.

I know that is probably an undesirable trait .

However lately the same old diehards are once again posting in the general area topics that they must know will be challenged, which really makes them Trolls.
So I propose that all topics that are off subject ie Land Rovers, or fit neatly into a category such as flight or camera corner should go into the "love-in' section.
    Regards Philip A

Not at all Discoman, where people take topics and how they communicate towards each other is not the responsibility of the person who originally put the topic up.

I was merely pointing out that there are plenty of what would be considered contentious and potentially heated topics discussed openly in CA without any agro at all and if people really want to discuss various topics then maybe they should consider, if they already haven't, joining the Current Affairs section.
    Cheers,

So, a topic that has importance in our day to day living and future for you is a troll?

I would suggest to you that before put names to those members you ask admin to change this:
General Chat Almost anything goes, have a look and drop in a few lines. Think of it as a campfire chat with the kids around.
It would not do any harms to kids to learn something about climate change and global warming. It is not a tabu topic in their schools either.
There are many threads in the general section that could possible bring some robust exchange of views but as long as they are within the forum rules IMO there is not reason to complain.
Every single member here have the freedom of choice to participate, read or not read threads that are not of his/her interest.
    Have a nice day

Philip there is no 'love in' as you put it in CA, topics are debated with gusto from both sides of the fence and yet there has been no agro, to date everything is quite civil and mature, which is the way it should be.

Philip if you really don't want to see topics in the GC section that don't relate just to Land Rovers then why put fuel on the fire by getting involved?

If you really want to prove that others on the other side of the political, religous or eco fence use flawed logic and quote incorrect facts etc then why not join CA, there are all sorts of topics and comments in there being debated that I'm sure you would / could disagree with and then if you were a member you could then show / prove to those on the other side of the fence how wrong they are. ...

Unfortunately too many people trawl the papers and the internet looking for things to post up - not to raise a point for discussion but to simply post something up.

All too often these posts will take the form of a couple of words such as "look at this" and a link.

That is not the sort of discussion that I certainly have around the fireside.

If someone has an issue with something that might be discussed around a camp fire then by all means start a thread but put something in it about your views and why you think it is important - blitzing the forum with threads just comprising a couple of words and a link is not the way to do it.

It seems to me that these type of threads are either by Trolls or more often, just threads posted for the sake of posting things up.

I agree with TerryO - put them in the CA section.
