There us some info about it HERE
Incat have a bit of history with solid objects in the water too:

How they actually hit the (well charted) rock on speed trials is up for grabs. Suffice to say no one got off the boat for a good long while.

If they had a bit more whiskey on board, perhaps the Incat would have jumped clean over and kept on going.

I was living in Hobart when it happened. My boss at the time had just crossed the bridge when he heard a big noise and all the lights went out behind him!

It cause quite a bit of disruption to the city. From memory Bob Clifford had a couple of tourist ferries operating but quickly came up with a few more, including a hovercraft. Others came from around the state and three big Sydney ferries were sent down. Even the Bruny Island car ferry was brought in with the passengers standing like cattle out in the weather.

I was working shifts at the airport and the office Torana was left near the eastern shore ferry terminal for shift workers to get to and from work.

    Stephen.

    Hi,
We were just home from Clifton Beach when we heard on the radio the bridge was down.
    Missed us by an hour.
I shot a lot of the cine film for the documentary on its construction between 1662 and 1964.
    Cheers

    Hi,
The last time I saw the film was a copy belonging to the Education Dept, in their library about 1995. 16mm b&w of course.
Tas State Library may hold a copy.
    Cheers
