Yes, i sent them a letter ages ago, straight after i bought the disco, its a bit late now, i have fixed the steering box leak, but i asked a question about the tacho, it doesnt read accurately, it jumps all over the place, i just wanted to see my name in print and thought i might learn somthing at the same time, I see they finally got around to publishing it, you spoild the supprise for me though, i havent got it yet. Do you subcribe or get it from the newsagent, if you subcribe i wont get it for a coupla months. Matt

    Ace,

Is the tacho needle still bouncing?

I have some experience with this phenomenon.

Certainly is, i degreased the engine last week, it stopped for about 10km and then started again, i have grown used to it, but it would be nice to know what the engine is doing every now and then. Matt

I think that LRH will not mind a Hijack here.

    Basically two things:

1 The alternator is on the way out

2 The connections on the back of the alternator need looking at.

On the second the "pull off" connector on the thin wire that feeds the Tacho may be loose and will require crimping to ensure that it is making contact.

Mine was slack and this worked. This is the first thing to check.

The other connections should be undone and cleaned and the reconnected.

If this doesn't work then the alternator is passed its use by date.

I replaced mine and there are a few traps there.
