Was unreal. Saw it from the 9th floor of the Mater whilst visiting my wife. Tennis ball size hail coming in horizontally smashing into the windows.
I left at 6.20 and the whole area was still gridlocked.

Just saw pictures of this on the ABC news over here. Some pretty heavy damage in some areas - hope everyone over there is OK.
Both Perth & Kalgoorlie are known for the occasional pretty savage hails storms - but I don't think I've ever seen anything as bad over here as what I just saw on TV.
Cheers .........

Most probably the biggest hail storm in Brisbane since mid 1980s. That one broke windows in high rises, trains etc. Massive damage but nearly 30 years ago.
Just finished getting our second bout of heavy rain, missed the first storm, watched it pass over a little to the west of us headed North,we just got heavy rain out of it for about 10 minutes.
In 1985 my wife's work colleague's new car had the tappet cover profile impressed on the bonnet because of hail, (parked in Barry Pde), TAB building had people under desks because of the damaged windows, so it was a bit nasty. Basically, hail the size of small promo footballs hit the city. 2 or 3 storms combined, a couple of updraughts to melt the hail together into ridiculous sized projectiles and damage ensued.
We were watching it on the radar and Dark red was heading straight for us. As you can imagine trucks had mattresses were placed on bonnets etc. The 6x6 was parked behind the shed to help protect itAnd then it went west, sorry Archerfield/Brisbane
We only got a good drenching of rain

Glad to hear no-one was injured badly, so far.
A workmate of my wife told her about the alert. She hightailed it shortly after.
He left 10 minutes later, got caught in the open and his car looks like an angry gorilla got nasty!
My love almost made it home before taking shelter in an overpass to be sure. Unscathed but shaken.
Was pleasantly surprised when a m'cyclist also pulled in for shelter and proceeded to check on the other drivers! I salute you sir!
Would be interested to know if the tunnels became log jammed with cars not wanting to exit...
Still growling references to the 'Gap storms'. That cell continued up the northern suburbs, smashed Narangba, D'Bay and onto Bribie. We got 250 jobs locally from it!
Cheers, BDave.
