Ok, the driver got a hefty fine. But, has the cyclist considered what might have happened had things gone even more wrong? I wonder how his kids would cope without a dad?

You'll also notice the cyclist was not keeping to the left as is required by law!
    Mick,

Your assertion that the cyclist must keep left is not completely accurate in the context which you post.

I do not profess to know all the road rules of all the states however I believe that all vehicles must keep left as far as practicable (paraphrased).

This does not mean that any vehicle must keep left in a lane so that there is sufficient space for another vehicle to pass the first vehicle in the same lane.

Comments such as "You'll also notice that the cyclist was not keeping left as is required by law" amounts to a justification of the behaviour of the motorist, in the context of your post.

In my view it also promotes the misconception that any vehicle that is not a motor vehicle may be treated / viewed as less worthy of our due care / compassion / respect..........or whatever the correct term is.

I think the focus should remain firmly on the actions of the motorist in this particular case.

    from the SA govt:

Keep to the left and ride at least one metre clear of the kerb and parked cars.
    That's very "leftish".

Although the driver was out of line IMO and who in their right mind pulls a knife on someone? But the cyclist was nowhere near the left, and even if apply 'as far as practicable' he still isn't anywhere close to that - he was clearly in the right side of the lane where no danger presented itself by being further left.

I think this is a good example of both parties being at fault causing the issue in equal parts. If the cyclist was further left, no contact would have been made, and if the driver wasn't a complete tool and was a bit more patient there would have been no contact.

This to me shows what about 1000 other posts in this thread have said - both sides of this equation need to be more patient and courteous to each other and there would be far less issues.

The cyclist said that the vehicle hit him, and the video seems to suggest that as well.

if contact was made, the law says you must exchange details.

At 4 seconds you can hear a noise, and at 5 seconds the cyclist says 'he hit me'.

I'm only going off what the cyclist said and what's in the report with the video - I wasn't there, so can't confirm either way.

It's a simple case of self righteous provocative Idiot meet crazed Hot Head. I think each got the lesson he needed.
    Cheers, Billy.
    Keeping it simple is complicated.
