I think the focus should remain firmly on the actions of the motorist in this particular case.

Although the driver was out of line IMO and who in their right mind pulls a knife on someone? But the cyclist was nowhere near the left, and even if apply 'as far as practicable' he still isn't anywhere close to that - he was clearly in the right side of the lane where no danger presented itself by being further left.

I think this is a good example of both parties being at fault causing the issue in equal parts. If the cyclist was further left, no contact would have been made, and if the driver wasn't a complete tool and was a bit more patient there would have been no contact.

This to me shows what about 1000 other posts in this thread have said - both sides of this equation need to be more patient and courteous to each other and there would be far less issues.

if contact was made, the cyclist failed to exchange details.

The cyclist said that the vehicle hit him, and the video seems to suggest that as well.

if contact was made, the law says you must exchange details.
the cyclists doesnt pull over to do that.

i'm not condoning the 4wd drivers actions at all.

At 4 seconds you can hear a noise, and at 5 seconds the cyclist says 'he hit me'.

not that i think contact is crucial to the debate

I'm only going off what the cyclist said and what's in the report with the video - I wasn't there, so can't confirm either way.
