    Ambulance Drone.

this idea has some merit, provided there are people around when somebody has a heart attack.

"It's my Dad, I think he's had a heart attack."

Let's hope that diagnoses was correct. There are many more reasons for a collapse than a generic heart attack. Defribbing a functioning heart can be decidedly unhealthy.

these devices dont shock willy nilly.
they will only shock if the heart is in dysrhythmia

The drone carries an A.E.D (automatic external defibrillator). These are already available widely throughout the community - on most airplanes, in terminals, RSL clubs.. etc.
Any business / location can buy one - they are becoming more and more abundant.

They will not shock an "arrhythmia", as this is defined as an abnormal rhythm. Rather they will shock 2 rhythms 1. Ventricular Tachycardia 2. Ventricular Fibrillation.

Contrary to medical shows, the unit will not shock asystole, as without drug intervention asystole is refractory and will not change unless the patient is hypothermic.

I think these are a fantastic idea in metropolitan areas because the cost would be so small.

An ambulance would always be sent anyway.... but early defibrillation certainly does provide a much higher rate of reversion of cardiac arrest.

And here was I about to say that an AED checks the heart rhythm first, lol. Nice summary Lightning

We already have defibs that hang off walls in local buildings such as shopping centres,Banks etc, they walk you through the motions step by step with voice commands and flashing lights, there is also Paramedics on call 24/7 on the 000 network giving extra help when needed.Drones are just a solution to a problem that isn't there. generally ambulances dont arrived in 3 minutes.

there is never an AED around when you need one

but aust will never accept drones as we refer to live in the stone age.

    Ian,
You cannot defib a normal heart rhythm with AEDs and most Defibs set on auto analyse as they will only shock a recognizable irregular rhythm same as they will not shock a flat line (asystole). The only way this can be inadvertently done is by a programmable Defib and has to be deliberately done by someone with knowledge. AEDs just cannot do this at all.
The biggest mistake people make is thinking you are starting the heart with an AED or Defib. You are actually stopping the heart to allow the electrical pulses to reset and restart. Sometimes possible sometimes not depending on damage that has occurred.
Defib on a healthy rhythm will actually stop the heart and it is possible and even likely it will not start again.
