I wouldn't be to concerned with the lack of advertising in OZ because the advertising here in the UK has been just as rubbish. Think we have had one TV ad about the new D3 and in my opinion it was sh*t. My guess is that they don't have the budget for huge advertising campaigns or they dont feel they need to , as they can sell em on merit ???

I was reading recently that one of the biggest spenders on advertising in terms of vehicles sold is Land Rover in Oz. About $3000 per car. That shows that:

(a) They are using expensive magazines (yes, we know that)
and/or
( that their sales are very low (yes, we know that)

Umm, am I missing something on how to advertise?

Of course, use an expensive advert agency to produce advertising that doesn't work.

The must have a strategy. But they are keeping it under wraps in case Toyota start using it to reduce Toyo sales.

Ceretainly if you amortise the cost of advertising over the limited number of LR sold then the cost per vehicle will be very high.

To put adverttising cost into perspective. Companies like Adshell who use street furniture (like bus shelters and train stations) for the poster advertisements charge around $600,000+ for 2 weeks of poster ads displayed on 1500 shelters (QLD, NSW & Vic). This includes the creative work, printing and displaying. You can see how advertising costs can add up pretty quickly.

The Land Rover Discovery Series II has won an Auto Express Used Car Honour for the fourth consecutive year with the ‘Best 4x4 Off-Roader’ accolade for 2005.

Judged as the best vehicle in its category, the Discovery beat off competition from BMW’s X5 and the Kia Sorento, having sold over 200,000 in the UK since its launch in 1989. The Range Rover was also highly commended in the ‘Large Executive Car’ category.

Commenting on the Discovery’s award, Auto Express editor-in-chief, David Johns, said: "Still the best used buy in this sector, the recently replaced Discovery is king off the road, with amazing mud-plugging abilities and a rugged image that few of its rivals can even dream of matching."

He added: "Land Rover’s marketing men have done a brilliant job over the last decade of bringing Land Rover to the forefront of luxury brands, where it now happily mixes with the most prestigious German makers."

It seems Alto Land Rover in Sydney is doing their part to get the D3 message across. In the last 2 days, I've heard 4 adds on the radio advertising the D3 ... especially it's road manners, interior space and luxury features .. they also mention it is the Overlander 4x4 of the year.
