    Hopefully they are at peace.

    Cheers Ean

I had a little chuckle thinking about that, it would certainly liven you up at 3 am. Hopefully at peace. Bob

At that time, I was on Xmas leave, from Penguin. My mate & I were in central Australia, driving around Giles met station. We turned around, drove directly back to Sydney. Non stop. Knocked us about a bit. Told we weren't needed. Got on the ****, at the rockers, that's life. Bob

Westralia is haunted. My mate was the W.O. I/C of the refit. He allowed the fitment of non spec. fuel lines , because pressure was put on, to get the ship to sea for an exercise up north. They were not up to spec, and one burst. He is haunted, to this day. And some unusual things happened down the engine room, after that. Sailors imagination? perhaps. Bob

That would be very hard to live with, poor bugger. The bloke I spent the most time with would say strange things like valves he knew he had shut off would somehow be turned on again, pressure feed gauges would bounce around instead of giving steady readings. I have also heard that some of stokers on board that day were very green and lacking proper training? Sailors imagination, not sure either mate.

I believe the highest casualty rate for the Allies during WW2, was in Bomber Command, over Europe. The highest for Germany the submarine fleet. No matter what you thought of them, they were the best , of the best. And almost bought Britain to her knees. Bob
