Thanks for the link. The Wolfe Creek Crater was formed about 300, 000 years ago which, I guess, is only yesterday in the grand scheme of things. Imagine the blast when the meteorite hit the ground.![]()
An old one 50 km across, hooley dooley! Bob

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Bob, any idea where the Tookoonooka crater in SW Qld is?
I must have been so close to it so many times and never new of it's existence.
Mate, have to admit, never heard of it. However ;

Yeah I know where it is now, must make an enquiry when I go through Thargomindah next March/April.
I have a feeling it isn't much to see or Thargomindah would have it on their tourist agenda...for what it's worth.
Bob you slay me.
How did you find that Earth Ipact Data Base site.
It's quite amazing....for anyone following this thread click on this and look and play.
Tookoonooka
I payed a visit to wolfe creek crater a couple of years ago. Certainly a great spot to turn off all your camp lights and spent the night gazing at the sky and pondering how small you really are in the grand scheme of things. I really is mind boggling the force required to make such a big hole in the ground
I was part of the government field team for the drilling of samples to determine if it was an impact site. We had geophysical people etc. A crew of fifteen people. I was in charge of logistics had to drive into shark bay to send samples to perth via air commercial flight. It was confirmed so we could release the drill rig. Good times.
