    Delayed Cricket Telecast

While watching the cricket this morning I went onto Cricinfo to look something up and discovered the score on there was a bit higher than channel nine reckons.

Had a look at the number of overs and channel nine is delaying the telecast by 3 overs.

How long have they been doing this for ?

I havent switched it on yet , but generally I do find about a 6 to 8 second delay between the free to air ABC radio and the satelite Fox feed. Remedy courtesy of a radio with a built in time delay. Were you able to verify with any shots of the scoreboard and the official time to compare with the cricinfo ?

Seen that before, but not all the time. It's usually a few seconds, but I have seen it delayed by more than 10 minutes at times. No idea why though.

It was definitely about 3 overs, I checked it a few times. I am thinking that they were doing it in the 1st session to make the break shorter due to the length of the cricket show they have at lunch time.

that wouldnt surprise me as I have found in the past once the radio has been sync 'd to the visual there can be minor plus and minus fluctuations in the broadcast. Assuming nothing is happening with the live radio feed , it must be a combination of the tv station and the satelite transmission. I have heard tales of this being tweaked to allow an extra ad in then slowly speed up the "live" action until back on time.

A few seconds difference between radio & tv makes sense as one has purely terrestrial transmission & the other goes on a 44k km round trip to a satellite & back.
Don't know why there would be more than that though.

    Hi all,

I thought the difference between the radio broadcast and TV telecast was to alleviate any bad language that is picked up by the stump mics. Radio is real time and TV delayed. Can't have the kids picking up some colourful language on live TV. I got to listen to plenty of the ABC Broadcast yesterday. It was ****ing great.

    Cheers,

    Danial.

The TV and radio used to be at identical times. We always used to watch to telly with the sound turned down with the radio on for the commentary. It changed some years ago so you could no longer do this. Maybe Channel 9 and their garbage commentary team were getting turned off by too many...

You can again if you can find a little radio with a built in delay. I got one as a present a few years back. I beleive it was sourced in Tas. It is called a "Sport Sync" Scanner Master Sr 101. Worth a look on google to see if they are still available.
