The modern kids Christmas

We all have smart phones(except mum) but both at my mums for xmas we had traditional lunch and played a few rounds of cards and similar at my dads with my grandparents.
We are actually starting to slip back into older ways when it comes to spending time together.
It is kind of nice :)

Your grandparents were probably as disgusted with your behaviour, 'Playing board games! I was working in a mine and fighting Jerry at the same time when I was twelve! All our toys got melted down to make Spitfires.'

Generations change but inter-generational hatred never changes.

Actually, they were all watching DVDs they got for Christmas!

And yes, the house has wifi - but the external link is satellite, and the kids have already used all the data until after new year (currently speed limited), when they can resume trying to bypass the filter that tries to stop all video downloads.

It it was my place and they got DVD's for presents, it would be decided which one to watch and we would all watch it together on the telly.

How about forming networks by meeting others face to face and learning to communicate by using words and their body language and vocal chords. My 23 year old son would live in his room full time if we could push food under the door and he could work out some way of going to the dunny in there. Don't get me wrong he is a good kid and is doing a university degree in engineering. He has never been in trouble and is kind and respectful.

My son and all his mates do not have girlfriends because they are too busy on Facebook, Game of Thrones and World of Warcraft to bother going out and meeting someone.

I employ a number of apprentices and it amazes me the lack of interpersonal skills they display at interview. I bet if I sat opposite them and we each had a tablet or smartphone it would be a different story. But that is not reality and at some time in their life they will have to speak to other people.

I can see kindergarten in the future where all the kids have a keypad and fingerpainting and craft will be on a tablet and the teacher will be an image on a large screen 3D TV.

If you want an eye opener, get a copy of Project Wild Thing Project Wild Thing This shows the ever increasing disconnect of kids with nature and humanity. It is really scary stuff but with a ray of hope as well.
