off to recover a pajero 3.5 v6 in the morning

off to recover youngest daughter and her family tomorrow morning at mt mee / neurem creek camping area

her pajero is overheating in no time flat and she cant get out and up the hill

am hoping it is a thermostat and not the thermo fan but might have to tow her up to the gantry area with the disco and then go back and get the trailer with all her camping gear in it..

Great for holidays. Hope all works out and it an easy fix. I drove my Pajero a few years back from central Qld to Sydney with a bad bearing on the gearbox lay shaft. Thank goodness fourth gear was straight through and fine, Jim

Had a similar problem with a friends Delica (same V6 I think.) They had to stop and let the vehicle cool down after the temp gauge got very close to the red at the top of Greenmount hill. When they eventually arrived we discovered a dead rat (mouse) stuck in the fan blades of the right hand electric fan. Took a while to poke him out of the way with a small screw driver, but once clear of the fan all is good.

And they had no further problems on the way home yesterday & it was a very hot one.

Dave, wouldn't you be better off driving it down hill and resting/cooling at Woodford our d'aguiler?
Surely you'll get a fair distance with low load and from cold?
    Cheers, BDave.

If I wasn't working I'd offer to come, even if just to extract the urine.
Probably lucky I can't make it, my Disco overheated last time I was up there.

Dave, if cannot find any leaks check the heater hose o'rings above the valley cover. They are hard to get to but if they are damaged you will not see the leak because the valley cover is webbed & the coolant will evaporate. I had this experience with the Pajero I had years ago. Regards Shane.

the camping area where the vehicle and my trailer were located is 6 klms down a gully on the neurum creek road within the national park

no matter which way you go you have several klms of uphill

    just got home

towed the paj out using the wifes disco then went back and pulled my trailer and their gear out

all went well and the vehicle and all are home and safe...

thanks for the offers of help, it was much appreciated!

radiator needs rodding by the looks of it and the thermo fan must need replacing as well

the vehicle was fine one day and quick to overheat the next, without warning...

I'm glad that you got it home OK,it usually happens at the worst time when everything is closed or in the middle of the night in rain
