    Fuel price anomaly

Strange how when fuel prices rise , the transport and retail industries say they will have pass on rises to consumers > Fuel is down to $1.09 in Perth today but have not heard the transport and retail industries say they will have to pass on savings to consumers .

Same with the banks and their interest rises and reductions and I guess the same could be said for any other greedy monopoly. Control the market and you control the prices.

Still $1.42 for unleaded here and of course more for diesel.

I would just be happy if they passed on the lower crude prices.

yep some-one is cleaning up on fuel cost. we are still paying 140.9 in collie. when questioned as to why it's still old price, cost to bring up the hill, what a load of cocky crap. it sure goes up quick when the price of oil is high, but slower than snail dung to drop it down. rant over. cheers all

Did you ask when was the last time that they were filled? Remember until they have sold the volume of fuel they bought from the refinery at the high price it would be reasonable to continue to charge their margin on that price.

You have the choice of not buying until they bring the price down or going somewhere where its lower.

True Diana but bet your arse that they put the price up before the next lower priced shipment comes in and the tanks are still full.

I guess it will depend upon if it is a company owned/run, franchise or independent retailer. The company owned/run stations can manipulate the price as they feel because they own the fuel at each step before your car, where the franchisee and independants have to cover purchase costs as well as compete with the company stations.

For a while now fuel has had to be sold to operators at the same gate price (terminal gate price) company or independent to get around this, most servos work on a rebate system from the company they buy fuel from the so the price is controlled by the big oil companies even if the servo is independent. They are not allowed to talk directly to each other that is considered collusion so each servo rings in a price report once or twice a day if one drops his price the you usually get a phone call half hour later raising your rebate so you can charge less. But if there is no close competition the oil company will not give much of a rebate.

here is todays gate prices your local servo then gets a rebate hopefully

It would be nice if it worked that way when the prices were heading in the other direction.

At the moment, LPG at Emu Plains (38km west from the Shell refinery at Rosehill, Sydney) costs 69.9c/litre.

At Pheasants Nest (on the Hume Motorway 67km south of Rosehill) it is 73.9 c/litre.

At Mittagong, a further 35 km south of Pheasants Nest, it is a whopping 94.9 c/litre (at both servos that sell LPG) - someone is doing a bit of gouging.
