    Landrover Assist.

Well, the Puma is nearly three years old. Landrover has asked me if I want to pay $140 per year to extend the roadside assist, premium or $100 standard per year. There are differences in the two premiums. The standard has a towing limit of 20 ks in capital cities or outside these areas 60 Ks.The premium has a total of $1,000 worth of towing plus other benefits. The standard to me is useless, but wondering if anyone has experience with the premium with breakdowns, towing ect.

Don't recall being offered that when my 2010 110 ran out of warranty but was offered a years cover through some mob for about 3 grand from memory.
Service adviser at the stealers said "Not worth having" so I didn't and we have had no trouble at all.
LR Assist used to extend the original warranty for a year for about 100 bucks when we had Td5 110 and we needed that when the TPO played up in Newman.
LRA via RACWA flat bedded it and the camper back to Perth and paid extra for our expences.
Pity it took nearly 3 weeks to get back due to the attitude of Austrans drivers and their not wanting to re-arrange their loads.
You're probably better off using the RAC rather than what now seems top be a very limited cover from LR.

I have it and used it frequently when I had my Puma and was great, well worth the $140.

Haven't needed it since I upgraded to a real Defender 300 TDI

They were on to me as well,as my D4 is almost out of warranty.

It looked good value, but i have RACQ on a fleet of vans and the D4 can be added for very little, but i have to look closely at each to see which is the better one to have.

If i didn't have the RACQ,i would just go with it.

What i would strongly suggest is see if the dealer can do a pre out of warranty inspection. The best $187 i have spent for a while.Mine is in now,i noticed a clunk every now and then, turns out they are replacing the E diff.

As for extended warranty,i will give it a miss.

Glad to hear it's still going strong, Shortie. A mate said they spotted it and you down in Mandurah a little while back. I said they wouldn't recognise it as it was clean nowadays, but they were adamant.

The only experience I have had with them has been bad. I locked the keys in the boot of my brother in laws Range Rover while on holiday in margaret river. Called them and they sent a guy from busselton to try and get into the car. They couldn't guarantee that it would work but we agreed. While waiting we got a call from the bloke coming down from busselton. He wasn't sure that pushing the central locking button would work without the keys in the ignition. I called LR assist to find out and they had no idea. Long story short... The guy rocks up.. Button doesnt work. Cost me $350 out of pocket. IMHO LR should not send someone for a job that is impossible to complete. A waste of money if you ask me. They are no better than RAC.

Yes, I believe LR Assist would like to promote the vision that an expert LANDROVER man will be on the job for you, which is not the case. It seems that they sub contract the work out, so that the guy that calls may have little or no specialist knowledge of Landrovers.

To be honest, I have no faith in Land Rover Assist Australia. My car was three months old when it cut out while idling in my garage. Long story on the symptoms discussed in a different thread, but phone LRAA and the questions went as follows: what model? Defender. What year 2010. Petrol or diesel... Uhm diesel. Automatic or manual... Uhm manual. Do you have fuel in the car? At this point I asked to someone who knows anything about Defenders and she transferred me to the local Autobarn or something who told me without any adieu that my starter was knackered, regardless of the fact that it did turn over...

I hung up and Skyped Land Rover assist UK who talked me through the problem and over the phone pointed out a loose spade connector, which I reconnected and it's been good since.

IMO you'd do a heck of a lot better to join RACA or AAA and have it recovered to a competent repairer, in our case here in Perth - Southern Land Rover.

    Cheers,

    Lou

Yep RACQ or the equivalent in each state is the best way to go, I reckon. Just choose a membership rate with extended towing.
