Yes, the original Military Bar Treads are near impossible to purchase as when the Aust Army chanced to Radials, Dunlop/Goodyear sold the moulds O/seas, Indonesia I think, the original tyres fitted to Landies in the 50s/60s were Dunlop "Road Track Major" or Olympic "Trojan". the Road Track Major is still available, and is also known as an MP3 I think, Bridgstone or TOYO, they have a Bar type pattern with 2 zig-zag grooves in the centre, they ride/handle /grip better than bar treads on bitumen and almost as good as bars on sand /gravel roads, These tyres are CONVENTIONAL "Cross Ply Type" and available in 6ply and 8ply (the original Bars were 6 ply) I have run Road Track Majors (RTM)s on my 2a G.S. for many years and have only just been dragged into the 21st century and gone to Radials.
Hope that is of some help

Sime Konvoys are also a reasonable replacement. Not too disimilar to bar treads

Many thanks for those who replied to the request for original tyre information. Rocket in particular has given me a way ahead.I will aslo put a profile up in the next day or so.
Landy Andy was asking about the rally from Perth. It is organised by the ex military vehicles clubs every 5 years. This one is being organised by the Westralians. It starts in Perth and finishes in Alice Springs. It is a 21 day trip. If you want to go then you need an ex military vehicle and should contact Bob Dimer of the WA ex military owners club.
