So far so good with my freeloader, the diesel gets 14klm per litre and I will have to check my VC in the morning, mine was $15000 but had just over 100000km on the clock with an immaculate svc history. By no means is the vehicle slow for a diesel. 8)

Re Parts: You will be able to get the parts but you'll have a loooooonnnnggggg wait!
That 2000 MY will have the later IRD but it won't be going anywhere anyway as it's got the 1.8.... :wink:

Thats a good price, i have been looking on the net and cant find any diesel engined freelander below $20000. I will keep looking. But at the moment the petrol is looking good, even though everyone is telling me to go the diesel, i can only buy what i can find at the time, and what is within our budget. Also, they get the same economy, but petrol is cheaper, this equates to quite a saving over time, this can be put back if there are any problems. MattQuote:

Speak to DionM via PM or e-mail about freelanders, he can give you all the good oil (pardon the pun) and then some.
We too could also only afford a 1.8l petrol. we drove one, and loved it, but after finding out about it's problems, we decided that there was no way no how that we were getting that engine. the same engine is in at least 2 other cars, and has huge problems there as well.
Much as I like the hippos, the 1.8l isn't worth it.
Interestingly while I was working (at 3am this morning) I was having almost this same conversation :!: (Perhaps as a result of tiredness, because I was conversing with a Hilux driver).
He'd been looking for a second car that would be cheaper on the economy and had (he said) been talking to one of the mechanics from a local LR dealer. The mechanics POV ("They're all sh*t ) was, I suspect coloured by the possibility the mechanic doesn't drive a Landy himself.
The mechanic did, however qualify his statement and noted that his advice would be to avoid ALL Freelanders with the exception of late model TD4's.
Ace, that's why they cost more.

not sure what thread now but we were on THAT OTHER website, and I think Pheonix said he'd never heard of troubles with Freelanders,,
well this guy posted 15 pages of serious problems that freelanders had,,
remember??
anyway, my point is, $15-20 grand is a lot to spend on any car that has
all these problems, ( as posted on here as well,,,) I'm sure there are good ones around,, but they might not be for sale.
As you often say yourself Ace,,

It'd be nice for you to have a new car tomorrow,,
it'd be MUCH nicer for us if you took your time and bought a good one
