It's a scary decision... tyres

I replaced some Firestone Fyrcheck with BFG AT's and just can't wear them out. Decision time delayed.

Side wall strength helps in any off road tyre so a two ply is not an option.

About $320 - 390 per tyre.

Foorbys in Brizzy have them. When you see them in the flesh, you wouldn't say the were "LESS" aggressive

I have a couple of brand new Cooper ST 265 70 r16's to give away. Some so and so stuck a knife into the sidewalls in a shopping centre carpark the day I got back from my honeymoon. The stab wounds are about 1 cm right in the centre of the sidewall, and even though I had them repaired from the inside, the wound was bulging a bit, so I had to pay $280 each for two new ones from Traction 4.

If you want them, I'm in North Sydney. They are probably dangerous, so emergency spares only I'd reckon. Even the bloke in the tyre shop who repaired them said so! Like I said, they only had about 1000k's on them....

As a tyre they are pretty good, although they do seem to hang onto small rocks in the treads. I've dropped them into some deep mud, and tried to climb rock walls with them, and they held on really well for an AT!

The 265/75 made the Disco 2 much better on the road too. seemed to make the ride much more stable. Tiny bit noisy compared to the BFG's I had on the D1! I would have gone the new STT if they had been out in time.

Hi, $280 seems a bit steep. I was quoted $200 for 255/70/16's.

I cancelled the prder this moring after checking the forum when i got to work. The reason i got rid of the old ones was because they werent good in loose sharp rocks, hipping tyres isnt an option so i cancelled the ordered. I pm'd baz, but he hasnt gotten back to me yet.

Ok, i ordered a set of Mickey Thompson Baja Radial MTX's instead, they arent quite as wide, 225/75/16, but i dont want to go to wide anyway, just a bit wider than the old ones. According to the article on the defender camera vehicle used for the LOPE trip in 4x4 Australia the Mickey Thompson MTX's are excellent. I will keep you updated on how they go. Matt

This is another important consideration in tyre choice .
We had a problem with this issue on a recent High Country trip .
One of our vehicles busted a Cooper S/T just out of Omeo Victoria - and we had to wait for 4 days in Albury for a replacement - as it wasn't a standard tyre size that most dealers stock out in the Ozzie Bush .
It was a 235/70 R16 - for a '93 Range Rover .
Food for thought ,
Kev .
Hi Kev, its taking the bridgestone place here from today till friday to get them. Dont know about availability in the bush, i wont be straying to far from the nest for the next few year so that shouldnt be an issue. As for the price they set me back $228 each fitted. Not bad considering the BGF's are $60 dearer and i fail to see how they are $60 better.

Disco95- When i saw your tyres i thought to myself, i must get some of those for my next track day. Matt
