    sorry mate, they don't float!

Family loses Jeep to the ocean at Mudlo | Caboolture News

YET another vehicle was lost to the waves at Mudlo Rocks on the weekend.
What perhaps makes it harder for the family involved is that they were not sure whether it was safe to traverse the notorious strip of sand, so they asked someone, who it is believed was a local.
"Yeah, she'll be right," the hapless Brisbane man was told, so he took his Jeep across late Saturday afternoon.

    Unhappy Damm

That would be heart breaker alright, I don't think the insurance company is going to be helpful either. :

The local giving the advice would have assumed it was a 4wd Patriot- after all it was a JEEP !!
With all the 2wd options out there, Territories, Range Rovers etc etc, nowadays you would have to ask !!

That's the seventh this year, and I think the fourth since TC Marcia took a lot of sand away. Rainbow Beach Towing must be making a killing out of this.

I have no simpathy for this type of thing, it is a well known place for taking vehicles and as far as I know there is an inland track to avoid it.

I have no idea about whether it is gazetted, but if the track/bypass/access is a gazetted road, then it's covered by insurance.

One of the problems is that people believe that the advertising hype is all true and applies equally to anything with the "Jeep" badge on it.

Jeep does make some very capable 4WD's - the Patriot is not one of them. These things are in the same class as the small Lancer based Mitsubishi SUV's. In other words, not an offroader, but a city run-about with the general shape and looks of a more traditional 4WD, and not much else.

And as loanrangie pointed out - most of them are only 2WD. Of the three models available, both the "Sport" and the "Blackhawk" are only 2WD. Only the more upmarket "Limited" comes with Jeep's "Freedom Drive" (active full-time 4WD with selectable lock feature).
    Cheers .........

    I have a 4WDing mantra:
"If in Doubt - Chicken Out!"
This has kept me out of a lot of trouble.
