Ted has also recorded dozens of CD's and records and written many interesting books. His knowledge of the Northern Territory and the Aboriginal people is amazing.

In the song Sayonara Nakamura he is joined by his wife, Nerys towards the end. Many Japanese pearl divers died around Broome and to walk around the Cemetery there is quite moving, seeing how very young some of the divers were.

Ted is a legend, and very approachable. We have met him on several occasions and he is always up for a chat!

Oh and the list goes on and on...many, many songs and many, many stories ...as you would know if you have sat down and had a beer or two with him. Expert "Largerphone" player (drink the contents first!)

We have close friends who live in Scotland who stayed several days with Ted & Nerys in Govt House Darwin when he was Administrator.....he and Nerys also stayed with them when they were in Scotland. They recalled to us that they were with Ted, Nerys and singer Eric Bogle touring about the Highlands & Lochs and Ted & Eric Bogle would often break into song at some particular spot (such as Loch Lomand). Must have been a hoot of a trip for them.

Eric Bogle's "And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda" always puts a lump in my throat.

When we used to live in Alice Springs, Ted Egan used to perform quite regularly at the Chateau Hornsby vineyard just out of Alice Springs. I remember going out there and meeting him on more than one occasion. A great bloke who would sit down and have a beer and a chat with anyone.

The company I was working for (Granites Gold Mine) had their annual Christmas do out there one year and had a live band for the event. Ted turned up and sang a few songs during the night.

We also have spent a few pleasant evenings at the Chateau Hornsby with Ted many years ago. He's a great guy. Our son actually gave him a hand at the bar at interval..... serving lemonade (our son was too young to serve beer at the time). We were on our way to One Arm Point in WA and Ted gave us names of a few people to call in and see on the way. Was a very interesting trip to say the least!

Our daughter has enjoyed a quiet meal with Ted & Nerys at Government House several years ago when our Scottish friends stayed there.

Like you say..a great bloke and always has a good tale to tell.

Could do with more people like Ted Egan these days!
