    10 Aussie mountains to climb

First up, calling most of these mountains is a bit rich, but I've climbed the ones in the Glass house area, and Lord Howe island. You do get a great view of the surrounding area, can recommend both. Good bit of 4WDing around glasshouse, as well. Bob

Well, I can recommend the smallest/lowest registered "Mountain" in the World,...and you can drive to the top,......for a very good view of the Aussie Mallee.
It is of course "Mount Wycheproof",...all 141' of her.
At the recently conducted Australia day celebrations at "Wyche", the guest speaker was a mountaineer who had climbed the world's highest mountain, Mount Everest, but who was also proud of the fact that he had camped out atop the World's lowest registered "Mountain"!

Have done MT Gower on LHI a couple of times now. First time was in the clouds so no view but amazing rainforest so well worth it. Second time we got to see the view and equally amazing.
Interesting fact that Australia's tallest Mountain is not even on the mainland.
"The tallest mountain on Australian Sovereign Territory is Mt. Mawson (2,745 metres) on the Big Ben mountain complex on Heard Island"

Agreed! In fact we went back 5 years in a row we liked it so much.
Spent hours snorkelling in the Lagoon and on Neds beach.
    Some pics from our trips.

Thanks Bob, Not quite, Had the Fish fry several times as it moved around the island but never had dinner with a local as such. Got out fishing with Jack Shick several times and had enough Kingfish for several beachside barbecues. Also managed to dive at the base of Ball's Pyramid on one occasion which is quite special as very weather dependent. Hmmm, all this talk of Lord Howe makes me want to plan another trip, maybe next year

Diving at the base of Balls Pyramid is said to be very special. Half your luck. I was fortunate enough to have dinner with some locals, a really good night. Learned about the local history, the local characters, had random locals dropping in, playing the piano, sing a long, not a TV in sight. Enjoyed it. Just showed the Wife the photos, think I have her convinced to go there when she finishes work. Could count as a honeymoon, really, when we were married 39 years ago, we were married on a Saturday. I sailed on the Monday. Didn't come back for 6 months. Lord Howe..... sounds good, Bob
