    Landrover Mechanic - old School

As generally a younger generation of landrover lover (40) it's very evident the wealth of knowledge that the older generation have of these cars is incredible.

In saying that i am wanting to stretch my LR experience to a series II but lack the cnfidence in tackling the bigger issues, eg mechanical's, engine rebuild.

With so many experienced LR guys out there are there any LR enthusiasts who are retired or working out the back of their garage offering repair services etc (paid obviously) rather than going down the mainstream path and paying through the nose for a job probably some young apprentice has been given? This way i can also learn and we can ensure that knowledge and skills are being passed down the chain for the next generation of LR lovers.

I would rather know my work has been completed by an expert who knows all the intricacies around these cars rather than someone who has learnt to diagnose and replace.

Have struggled to find anyone out there, yet know that alot of the time it's word of mouth.

    Cheers
    JB

An old style mechanic in your area, that is still working as an old school Land Rover mechanic would be Fred Smith at 30 Havelock Road Bayswater. Ph 9720 4999.

Thanks Mick, I am in Ashburton/Ashwood Vic. I am sure there are guys who will take on projects in their backyard? Not only mechanics side of things but body, interior etc.

The only reason I bring it up as well as in the UK with my family the old school guys doing this are plentiful, yet i don't hear alot of it here in Aus.

    Cheers

JB a great place to start would be the Land Rover Owners Club of Victoria, I am sure there will be plenty of Series nutters there, most of whom I would be sure would be happy to share knowledge and help out where nescessary.

I third Fred Smith Automotive. Not necessarily cheap, but very good.

I used him when I was living in Melbourne, and although that was twenty years ago he is still willing to give me a chat and a cupa if I drop in.
