High Country Trip, Had fun, did some damage. Camilla is Sore

Hi all,
Camilla needs some TLC after this weeeknd......

Well i wont bore you tonight with the details of the Trip, i'll do that tommorow while im at work getting paid for it....

Ok, Trip went well. Had a ball, Hiline picked it blowing some blue smoke last week.... Well it got worse...
But i kept going and it used about 200-300ml of oil, just have to find the cause...
Economy was bad due to the slow going, we had some awsome tracks that were walking pace only.

Then on the last day (today) we crossed a river just out of Licola and thats when i had drama's
1st it was the problem with no snorkle and the water that tad too deep.... It hydroliced, but only just slightly, no damage just a few minutes to clear its throat. I tarped it and still had a problem, water was dash height and even with the extended breather hose under the bonnet it got it. id say it just copped a small drink...

Then the climb out was bad, i was the 3rd out and the hill was wet, clay and wet and slope dont mix. i dropped in a hole and sill bounced it real nice. Not being a bloke to give up i had another crack at it and slamed it into the hole when it slid in. option 3 was to winch it out. the only 2 that got up were toyo's and lockers.

the pix show it as i was reversing out.

Now i can install those Rock sliders...... Dont mind the rear quarter and door damage...

Its on Video and better still i'll be on 4WD TV on Chan31 in melb in the next few weeks.....

Yeah i also climbed this one hill and had some major air out of the front LH... Pix to come....

More info tommorow.... Here is some pix....

Looks like fun was had by all. I had that oil problem on the last trip, it spat out a **** load of oil heading up a very steep hill. It turned out i just overfilled the oil a bit to much and the last cylinder sucked some in. But if yours is using it constantly it might be a crack ring or something. How did it run after you hydrolic locked it?

Oh DZ, Camilla and Lurch arent twins are they, that sill damgae looks familiar?

It did not fully hydrolic, just enough to make it sound like a petrol engine missing... it cleared its throat after about 30 secs. i then emptied out about 1/4 cup of water from the air box.
i did all i could to prevent it so i was happy it did not die, if it did i would have torched it.....lol...

OK
Here is the full report.
Left Melb at 5.45am on Friday 13th morning and headed to Sale to meet the other guys.
We then went to Horseyard Flat camping area and styed the night there. that arvo we went to Lake Tarlicarn to have a look from the Sentinals. Very slow going.
I 1st noticed the blue smoke when i was desending a hill. it was only there at 1/4 throttle then heaps when you got off the gas, like fuel. but blue, so it had to be oil smoke.
After sussing out how not to make smoke i drove like that all weekend.
Some of the tracks were spot on.

2nd day we left Horseyard and headed Down Billy Goat Track to Wombat Spur. I spoke to PCH in his D3 on the UHF and we had a good old laugh. the Views wer to die for, up above the cloud level it looked so good all the vallys were cloud.
From Wombat spur we headed up Cynthia Track to Wonagatta and then on to Howitt plains where we stayed overnight at Howitt Hut.
1st night i slept in the hut with the fire going. 2nd night at howitt Hut i slept in the car. it was very Warm.....

3rd Day (sunday) we headed off and headed for Licola. Tracks was fantastic, very challenging with a few Steep sections where Camilla wanted to go down sideways...
It was not until the last river crossing that i made a fatal Boo Boo. I should have sealed up the Donk and got towed thru. But being a Landy driver we go anywhere.....
I tarped it up and headed on thru. i pulled the intake from the air cleaner and ran one right to the top of the engine bay. it still got a small drink but not enough to do damage. This caused the next problem, while it was clearing its throat i tried to negotiate a climb that was steep and slippery... the center was a 1.3meter hole and i dropped the back into it. doing this i damaged the sill and door and rear quarter. No big problem. i just reversed out and did it again... Doh.... so after the 2nd go i had to be draged back as the rear diff just got hung up... i was then winched up along with the 4 other 4WD's that could not get up....
1st 2 to make it were a 80 series with lockers and a babe troopy with lockers.... by then it was a tad slippery...

Photo's in the gallery show it after i reversed back down to have the 2nd go... you cant see the size of the hole but we filled it with rocks, logs and everything but nope, no one was getting up it...

Apart from that i had great time and will be out again on the 28th for more damage.....

I have to get hold of a few Pix from the lads to show some articulation i had going at one hill. 2 foot off the ground at the LH Front and the back very down in a hole.... it felt great to have that much air, it was to the point of falling over as i climbed this as the holes were quite deep. it just sat up against the dirt wall to stop it falling over.... Thank god for ruts and dirt embankments....

So the big projects to come are....
Winch
Rock sliders
Maxi Locker

Camilla with then become.... Godzcamilla

So whos up for a real mans 2 or 3 day trip with a few top blokes from the 4WDmonthly group....

I'll let you know what day i'm on 4WDTV.....

The link does work D110V8D.

Steve, now if my D3 fell into a hole that big and I did panel damage I'd be pretty upset (maybe even cry a bit ).

The Mt Wellington Track to the Sentinels after the hut got the better of me. I got about 1/3 of the way in and after I thumped a rock and biffed the fuel tank up a climb I just packed it in before damaging the D3 any further. The track into the hut is so slow and rocky. My Missus thought when we got to the Mt Wellington Cairn that was it and we'd head back out. When I showed her the GPS and where we were going she thought this is not enjoyable anymore but I persisted much to her better judgement because the hut was not worth seeing and we didn't finally get to see Lake Tali Karn. We could have walked but it was already 12.30pm and hadn't stopped for lunch and we were wasting too much time. Looks like I'll never see Lake Tali Karn.

Still looks like you had a great time and it was great to have a chat with you when we were up on Blue Rag and you were on the way down Billy Goat Bluff Tk.

I put some of my pics into my Gallery - see my post in General Chatter.

That track is tough going and slow, but i'll be honest and say the track we took on sunday was worse... to top it off there was a Lexus with Kimberly camper up there..... i could not believe it.. They are off to the Top end next week, they were doing a trial run...

i lost a hub cover on Mt Wellington track, lucky i had a spare...

as for seeing Lake Tarlikarn.... its tiny... it was hard to see in the mist.
i must go and walk in one day. 3 hours one way... But best fishing in aust they claim... no wonder you cant get to it...
