Tee fuel consumption of the engine isn't that bad, DionM has one here. As you are refering to the 2.5L, I presume you are talking about the V6. It's a nice vehicle.
However, if it's a 1.8L petrol version, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, it has serious issues.
I've heard consumption figures of 16L/100km for reasonable mixed driving.
If you can afford the petrol, go for it, however the TD4 diesel is also a fantastic engine if you can afford to buy one.
