Only thing to remember is that even if you know the history of the car, if you go to sell it it will still be a car with no history.. depends on how ling you want to keep it
Nice work! If you can get the previous owner to spill the beans on what he got as a trade-in you'll have even more ammo as to what you can expect to get them down to. Having a few hundred dollars in your hand to put down as a deposit, or waving the cheque book under his nose is also handy.

He could easily do this, offer them 9k if they say no, give them your numbe and walk away. They will ring you in a week or two if they really want to sell it. Matt

This doesn't always work with caryards.
I saw a Defender at a car yard in Feburary in Bris that had a 02 defender that was really my perfect car. It was low K and immaculate. I'm told it was actually available before that.
Unfortunately, like all the other second hand defenders, it was rediculously overpriced. They had it on the yard ar 40k. I asked them if they would take $36k (still absurd for a 3yo car imho) and they knocked it back and said the lowest they would take was 39 + rego +SD etc. I said oh well.... I'm going to buy a new one then (only a few K more) and they said fine. Last I heard it was still on the lot. That means they have owned the car for 6 months that I know of! I really wonder how they make money! 8O

There are some who wont, as you say, but in a lot of cases it will work, because like you said they can be stuck with it, and in this time regardless of there being no Km's added its aged 6 months and is worth less regardless. Many dealers will realise this and be willing to deal to get rid of it. But you are right it doesnt always work, but the worst they can do is say no. Matt
