After reading some of the confessions here I must admit to being a Dutch Liquorice Double & Triple Salt aficionado;)
Geez it's addictive! (Although some at the Glenreagh gathering a couple of years ago may beg to differ:D)

Everyone knocks coke. Look at how much sugar is in a can of lemon or indeed lemonade. Try looking at sugar content in fanta. Is that a shocked look on ur face? Coke's main fault is caffeine. I dont care coz I been drinking it for 45 years and will continue to do so. By the way that green coke tastes like shyte,:thumbdown::thumbdown: IMHO.
Cheers Rod. (Cokeaholic )....lol:D:D:D:D:D

I don't think anyone organisation be it govt or whatever should control the quantity of salt etc in foods.
What SHOULD occur is that the govt SHOULD enforce food labelling laws such that we can CLEARLY and SIMPLY understand what is written , then make our own choices.
vis....'this jar/can/bottle, contains two teaspoons of salt , two teaspoons of sugar etc etc'
in clearly marked and understood words......not "one serve equals 5gms/kg per serve blah blah"
that will then allow everyone who cares to easily recognise and understand the contents.
currently , although the quantities are revealed on labels , you need to understand what a 'serving' is considered to be ....how many servings there are in the vessel and then do the mental arithmetic to work out how much salt etc is in it.
for some reason food manufacturers refuse to make the info CLEARLY available , although it took years and years to get them to disclose it in it's current form.
Hi . The Australian people do pay for there health , Private health funds , Medicare levy's , taxes . Think of how much goes into TAC funds from each vehicle alone , there's plenty of funds going into health one way or another . I don't smoke , but where does all that tax go ? Alcohol where does that tax go . Tax this and tax that , we might as well just work for the state , they get It all one way or another eventually . GST could well be next !!.. Jim
Oi!
This thread was not intended to be political, so don't push it that way.
What I was intending to point out was the disparity between how we react to the road toll and how we react to the salt toll.
Being motoring enthusiasts, we seem to be often getting the raw prawn.
We seem to be forever lowering speed limits and increasing fines (remember the double demerit points). Maybe we should be issuing salt licenses and the salt police could issue fines to these caught partaking in excessive salt consumption.
Plain labelling is definitely a good part of the answer. What's in it and where it came from should be clearly stated and you shouldn't need a magnifier to read it.
I rarely sprinkle salt on food and don't add sugar to anything.....but the Cook keeps buying biscuits and other sweet choc stuff so what can I do?????
Of course her being a real nasty has suggested me giving up beer!!!!!
