Beer is low in vitamins too so you have to drink a lot to get your daily quota of them

    Mick,
I'm not sure I can follow the salt licence and salt police thing. But that's OK as I find life more confusing the older I get. We may need a domestic violence police as well cause 2 women die per week from it, and it has no specific money allocation for it's prevention at all.

It's no secrete why manufactures make labelling small, or fail to put what's in there. They just don't want to tell you full stop.

    67 Hardtop.
Coke, fanta, lemonade call it what you want. It's all laced with truck loads of sugar. I have in the past counted out 14 teaspoons of sugar in front of the kids, and asked what flavouring do you want with your soda water. They think I'm nuts and joking. Coke just market it as fun.

Choice is one thing, but when just about everything that comes in a can or packet is laced with sugar, salt, fats, or oils; choice become very limited. Modern day diets are causing so many health issues no government will be able to keep up. No health insurance policy will be able to be retained from rising costs. My sic and accident police rose 15% every year until I was priced out of the policy. Doctors of stress leave was the reason I got for its increase.

    funny old world.

I think you understand it better than you think.
Why is it we have a "road toll" that is reported regularly in the news as if it is a blight on society where the "salt toll" and "domestic violence toll" are largely ignored?
Why is it that we are making road related penalties more severe each year and yet the penalties for family violence are rarely upheld and penalties for excessive salt consumption are non existent?

    (rhetorical questions)

Mick, perhaps it's because only one individual i.e. the salt taker, is deceased whereas, with a road incident there's probably more than one person involved, plus the unpleasantness of the scene to all involved.
Also, I believe that the general public can "Tsk, Tsk" more at road incidences
so it's good for the government & media!

Because the government makes money out of road related penalties.

It costs money to police crime.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

    Rhetorical question meaning:
A Rhetorical Question is a figure of speech in the form of a question that is asked in order to make a point, rather than to elicit an answer.
But, you both have confirmed to me that it is more about the people who are concerned with the road toll than the deceased in the road toll.
It's more about people feeling good they are doing something about a less difficult problem that has less per capita deaths.

I saw a woman he other day in Woolies pushing a trolley who was over 150kg with her two children in their early teens which were both over 80kg and in the trolley were about 10 large bottles of Coke and Fanta as well as large packets of Corn Chips, Frozen French Fries, frozen pizzas, pop tarts, Sara Lee Cheezecake and a host of other rubbish.

There was not one vegie or piece of fruit in there.

In the same way as if you are at fault in an accident your insurance does not cover you, why should the taxpayer fund the medical expenses of people that destroy their health.

If you over eat for 45 years and develop diabetes and kidney failure or smoke 25 a day for the same period and develop lung cancer, why should the community pick up the tab.

Everyone likes to indulge on a cake or bowl of chips occasionally but chronic abuse of foods high in sugar and salt is a lifestyle choice not an addiction as the bleeding hearts will tell you.
