4x4 clubs worth it, or not?

Been looking at a few different clubs including LROV and Freewheelers.... really not sure if they are worth he money. Had a great day out last Saturday with a great bunch of guys and it only cost me some time here... what do i get for the money with the 'clubs'.
Looking for some good times, good trips with people who don't have their noses in the air. This is one of the most egalitarian hobbies I know and don't need politics....... Your ideas please

Being in a club is most definitely worth it. I joined a local club and the LROC Sydney branch. Not only do you get free driver training, well planned and organised trips, a great network of people, like the one you have here, you are insured on trips, and being in a club helps the 4wd Association fight the 4wd bashing, what little they do. This has been asked at least twice in the last couple of months. Basically lots of people are in clubs. Yes there have been bad experiences, but don't write them all off as people with "noses in the air". I'd recommend trying a few, turn up on at least two club meeting nights. I'm strongly in favour of the club movement and saved my LROCV membership within two weeks of joining.

Wardy, I am asking myself the same questions too - new to 4wds and Rovers. I am going to go along to the LROCV meeting on 2/6/05 to see what the crowd is like and the sorts of things they get up to.

From the LROCV.com.au site:

"Club meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month, except January at 8pm. Meetings are held at the Veneto Club, Bulleen Road, Bulleen (Melways 32, D9). Visitors are welcome. If you wish to join or know more about the club, come along to one of the Meetings, or contact a Member or a Committee Member for more details."

I'll be the one with the pink carnation!

Hey Wardy and Macman,

I was the same as you guys.... was watching the $$$ and didn't think I could justify the money. ops: ops:

It took me near a year after I bought the Disco before I pulled my finger out -- I'm a member of LROCV - very happy with the decision - there are a really wide variety of people and things to do.

As for the money - I have got a fair chunk back already in discounts from buying through club contacts - and besides that I got My wife and I both through a Driver training course for FREE!!{Thanks RMP - good course!} ( That alone would have cost twice the fees we paid!)

Come along - I should be there Thursday so I'll look out for the carnation too!!

I really wish I'd got my finger out sooner - so without any question I think the RIGHT club is worth it....

Oh *****. Where will I find a carnation in winter!?

I'll make it simpler. Most likely I'll be the tallest person in the building (seriously) and other than being an unfamiliar face, I'll be wearing a "Parabellum Imports" cap.

Look forwark to meeting some of you similarly "afflicted" folk.

Is anyone a member of the RRCOV? :?: :?:

or is that one of those "nose in the air" clubs?

If so, then I feel I need to join the LRCOV

OK.
I'm a member of LROVC.
I thought it would be worth it for the trips ect, But i can honestly say there is 2 web based groups i use that mean i would not have to be in the LROCV.
AULRO and 4wdMonthly. Both offer great guys and trips.

So will i join the LROCV again...... dont know. They are great guys, big also. I need to get more commited to them to make it worth while

Its worth it for some things.
They have a library, driver training, Trips all the time, a house in Mafra for use. It does add up.

Ray, What is your opinion?

In general yes they are worth their money. Some are better than others. The best idea is to go to a meeting before you commit and trial their services. Most clubs if genuine will let you turn up to a couple of meetings and tag along with another member to a club event if you show an interest. It also depends on what is available locally, if they are too far out of your way it can be a hassle.
