Its refreshing to hear, but the transit engine is a bad move given how good the TDV6 is. Matt
In the next couple of years:
- new diesel engine, derived from the Ford Transit, to replace the TD5 because of emissions regulations.
- new transmissions. 6-speed auto and manual (all together now...wooohooo!)
- Revised seats
- Better aircon
but basically the same Defender.
This direct from LR, last night at LROCV.

I drove a laden Transit to Sydney and back in February, and I have to say as far as TD motors go it was not a bad bit of gear. Seemed to be happier around town than the Rodeo TD 2.8 kicking around (one in the family) and smoother on the highway to.
From what i have heard they are good engines but they begin using oil like crazy after about 50000km. Then again if i listened to everything i heard i would think toyotas are a good 4wd. MattOriginally posted by MacMan
