Thread: Defender Improvements

hey guys, I dont know if you have this months LRO yet but they are reporting that the Ford TDCi engine is only a stopgap until the TDV6 is fitted. I know the engine as it is in the Mondeo has a great reputation over here. There are also reports of a short wheelbase D3 which may be a new Defender mule!
I have a 1984 90 with a 2.5 turbo engine (pre TDi), no frills and loads of rust and am in the fortunate position to have just taken delivery of a new Defender 90 TD5 County Hard top with ABS/ETC, aircon, heated seats and windscreen and more. In my opinion the continued development by land Rover is great, there is a world of difference between these two machines which look so similar.

5 weeks till we hit Oz, cant wait.

As far as Ford Transit diesels go, it would be interesting to know which version will be used as the basis for the new Defender donk. It makes a big difference whether they will use the common rail version, or the lower powered conventional motor.

The common rail version should produce a useful increase in power & torque over the TD5. Driving in the UK, I have been passed at 85mph on the motorway by guys driving Transit vans at 90mph or so !!!!!!!!!!!!!.

    Cheers,

    Lionel

Hi kevin, how long will you be over here. If you let me know your itinerary we could plan another BBQ at my place and take you on some of the tracks just over the blue mountains, spend a weekend showing you some of the scenery. Might even correspond with camel landy's movements. Matt

well that is some of the best news i've heard on the defender fron for a while, especially if the TDV6 will eventually make its way into the defender.

As for the stopgap, I don't care where it comes from as long as it's good

I will reserve judgement on the transit diesel for when it arrives. I am not going to comment based on hearsay. It might be good and well suited to the fender. Matt
