8)hey rangeroverin, how about 'gold coast landys',
i too have the same prob, bris is a bit far to go to a club meeting
we have a few coast based people here, so how about we all get together at a suitable pub one night and follow the your lead.
we have about six members here on the coast, so we can work on a group thing if we get together.

    Hi Dan,

I've just gone through the whole process of setting up a club so will be glad to give some advice. This is what needs to be done:

You have to register an Incorporated Association which will make the club a legal entity. This is to protect your members as well as yourself. It's relatively cheap ($120) to do.

Next step is to get some public liability insurance. The best way to achieve this is to join the "4WD Queensland" association (http://www.qafwdc.com.au/) which will give you access to cheap public liability insurance. To join the association will probably cost around $11 per registered member. There are other benefits when you join, things like discounts, access to driver training etc.

Not sure what the cost will be in Queensland but PLI through the 4WDNSW is $8.50 per member or a minimum of $190 (if you are less then 22 members)

You will have to setup a budget for the year and determine a suitable membership fee to cover the above mentioned cost. It will roughly be around $60 per member based on a start of 10 members. Any additional members can cover things like bank costs, administration, printing etc.

Last thing is to get a PO Box, bank account and a membership application form to get those members signed up. Of course there are some regulations in running an Incorporated association, you have to setup a set of rules and regulations and appoint a committee to look after the afairs of the Inc. but it's a no-brainer.

In terms of the name there is no reason why you couldn't call your club "Gold Coats LRO" ... you can still allow non-LR guys to join.

Good luck .. if you have any questions give me shout.

    Henry.

Sounds like a good idea guys.

I tried to get one going around here, got a few people ringing, i told the to join here so we could coordinate our trip weekends, and then formalise the club when we got enough prospective members. Not one of the joined here, so i have given up for now.

    Good luck with it. Matt
