Yeah, I see it also is a Volvo and the company is CDC which is the company I work for. Double deckers are good in very large cities such as Melbourne and Sydney. I would love to have a drive of one.

    Miss this bit Jim?

I saw a 'decker on the Gold Coast the other day, Translink/Surfside deal. Translink (State Govt) funded and operated by Surfside, a private entity.

Didn't miss it Ian Yeah, one of our drivers is a Pom and he used to drive double deckers in London. Our bus tracking system has him scratching his head. In London your vid. screen will tell you if you are running early/late when you pass timeing points.

Here you get no such warning, so you are constantly watching the time as you pass a timeing point. I don't lose sleep over it though as long as I start a run, on time.

Yep, and very successful for charter work too!!! Taking school children on various day outings, the company does a lot of work for the Dept of Education, which these buses are mainly set up for. Also used for wine tours up at Pokolbin in the Hunter Valley and various musical shows at Hope Estate in the Hunter Valley!!!

The company also has coaches with high back seats and television for those who want extra comfort (and willing to pay extra) and for longer trips.

    Don't confuse a bus with a coach!!!

I bet it's more comfortable than the Albion and Bedford coaches I used to drive.

The thing is, Ian. After carting drunks around all day on a wine tour, you want a vehicle that is easy to clean out and these buses have hard wearing materials that can cope with drunks and noisy/messy school children!!!

Do they have a flat floor or sunken aisle Jim, what's the headroom?

Ian, to be quite honest, I don't know to both of those questions. I'll have another look when I go to work later today!! I'm pretty sure it's a flat floor.

I think this is the relevant bit:-

"Buses which run not only school routes, but also regular bus services during the day, will not be included in the program."

I am still surprised that any operator would buy new buses without to operate even part time on school routes. I wonder what their insurers have to say?
