Thread: LR3 or RR

Ziggy,

I drove a secondhand RR TD6 as a comparison to the D3 TDV6. Chalk and cheese (TDV6 was miles better). I thought the handbrake on the RR was still on when I accelarated off from the dealer's lot. It wasn't more than about 5 mins before I hated to drive the TD6 and I brought it back. It just didn't want to get going.

The assymetrical rear should be the other way for RHD but unfortunately it isn't but because you get beep beep beep on the back standard it helps a bit but nothing is as good as seeing behind.

In terms of space and rear load area the D3 is better.

If you are going to use it off-road then I'd take a D3 over the RR. Current model with all the gizmos and costs a lot less. As you say better value for money.

But it's personal choice.

Hi Ziggy, it all depends on what you are planning to do with the machine once you have it, it’s horses for courses.

The Rangy has more room and rides better but the D3 is a big jump forward and my wife loves driving the Rangy but after test driving a D3, she was impressed and says she would rather have the D3 and I thing for what you get in the new disco, they are better value for money but I would still have the Rangy over the D3.

Hi PCH, there must have been something wrong with the RR you drove because I will lay money that there is not a D3 diesel that can get near my Diesel Rangy and there is a number of other LR owners that had a drive last week and if they see this post, may be they can put their opinions forward.

The RR had 40,000Km on the clock and to me it felt like a slug. Maybe that was why it was for sale. I can't compare it to other RR's but I certainly can tell you the D3 is quicker off the mark than that RR I took for a drive.

If its a RR you now want over the D3, wait till next year and try out the RR with the new V8 TD, not sure when it will arrive. What about a RR Sport? Matt

Yeah, read about the Sport.

I will use this thing off road, and I reckon the sport is getting just a bit low in ground clearance.

It's probably worth a look, though.

It's funny when we talk to the dealers: Here we are looking at a brand new RR HSE. "You do know it will be going off road. No, seriously, just like in your promo pictures. So what if it needs towing? You know your road assistance program will only tow vehicles over 2.5T at the owner's expense? That's gotta be almost every vehicle in your range, hasn't it?"

I always see them run we I say that one!
