Mr Dawg, you are not the only one. I've had my 95 Disco for 6mths now, and I still sometimes miss my 81 2 dr RR. Ditto as per experiences and money back, but somehow, believe it or not the Tdi Disco is growing on me. (Although I do miss the V8 roar).( But not the fuel bill). I have pics of my rangie in it's prime, so I'm happy.

I think nearly every one has feelings like this. I know that i still regret seeling my 1960 IIA shorty with PTO drive.

After the accident, I stripped it down and rebuilt it. Strangely I bought some new springs for it and the turned out to be off the 109 but sold as off a shorty" so I had a lift 8) They fitted to my suprise.
When he left I asked him, What are you going to do with it.

And I spent many hours getting the thing back to new :roll:
Was the IRD new or second hand from a post 2000 model? How much did it cost you? I am weighing up buying a pre 2000 and budgeting to get that done straight away.Quote:

I am the same, I sold my commodore to my brother, i looked after that car like it was my only child. Every time i see him i drill him about whether or not he is looking after it. I was even sad when he drove off, even though i was going to see it again. Matt
In answer to your question Matt, my wife lets me do just about anything I want which is cool compared to the overbearing whiphand my first wife was, she was so cold when she opened her legs a light came on, not to go off on a tangent. When she let me buy the Disco TDi which was purely a economy based move I knew that sitting in the lounge room for 2 months is her new $5000 stove set up waiting for a kitchen renovation. Now being a builder I have sold the rangie to fund her kitchen Renovation as a fair husband would.
But before you all howl in disgust after the kitchen comes the F and R air lockers (yahoo).. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img]

I got a low km 2001 TD4 IRD and it was $1250 - new they are about $2000+-. (note new pre 2000IRDs do not have the problem) However, if I had known about the problem before hand I wouldn't have had the failure because I had the symptoms of the failed Viscous Coupling for quite a while - if I were you I would still buy your pre 2000 diesel get the XEDI rather than the DI as it has all the goodies - test the VC as part of the pre purchase inspection and make your decisions from there - new VC's are $3200+from landrover - new from Bristish 4wd $1850 and new from the UK about $1200 landed in Australia. Secondhand about $600. It seems that the VCs fail between 100,000km and 150,000 intervals in the 98/99 cars.Quote:

If the VC is OK - then I would simply include a VC test every 5000km in your maintence routine and be aware of the symptoms. If the VC packs it in it usually takes a long while for the other damage to occur so you have time to do something about it. Stay off high grip surfaces. I had my car for 6000km before the IRD failed and in hindsight my car had the symptoms the whole time.
So you can wait to see if the problem develops - and it may not - and fix it at the time or do as you suggest upgrade the IRD straight away and not have the problem at all.
I got my car really cheap and even with the probs have had I am still way ahead. And the car is really nice to drive. I have been scouting trails west of Canberra in the Disco so that I can give thye hippo a good workout when it is back to AWD.
