Trade in Value more than purchase price....

I'm currently sniffing around looking at getting myself a D2.(TD5)
Question i have is, the work van i want to trade in, is worth more that the D2's that I have looked at.
Before you all scream sell it privately, I have neither the time or inclination to do so, and I'm prepared for my losses on the Van, but I would just like to know if anybody has had any experience with this sort of thing...
Would the car yard give me back some cash? (unlikely) or would they just give me absolute rock bottom dollar value for the trade in??????
    Cheers.

A few years back I traded a V8 Dunnydoor wagon in for a little buzzbox (Ford Festiva) for SWMBO to use as a shopping trolley.

I got the buzzbox and a cheque for ten grand from the caryard.

So it's not outside their normal business practices - but they hold the aces and will try to give you the lowest possible trade-in price for your vehicle. I was lucky though, in that they already had a sale for the Dunnydoor wagon (it was a bit of a rare one).
    Cheers .........

Yes, I'm hoping for a cheque of similar value.

Or look at an early D3 for roughly the same value.

Only problem with that is all the scary buttons and doohicky thingamijigs....
I'll give you an example of how far behind the times I am.......
I've only today just realized that D2's don't have a CDL!
So for me, a D2 is like a Tardis. It'll go anywhere I want, have all the tech I want, with plenty of room for everyone (i want)
I've owned old school stuff for far too long...........
Time for me to get out from my rock.

Instead of going to a stealer who will try and make their margin on both vehicles, try and find a person to do a trade with cash adjustment. For my current 02 defender I gave the previous owner a 98 playdough on LPG with some cash. He was happy, as was I.
Put an add up here or on gumtree "for sale XYZ van $XX,XXX or partial D2 td5 trade with cash adjustment, to be negotiated".
