Rain and more rain. We bush camped between Packsaddle and Tibbooburra and had thunderstorms all night, this was the road the next day.

Could hear some trucks going by as we broke camp so took that as a sign the road was still open, found out later it was closed at the time from Packsaddle north.
We towed this lady with her Tojo and caravan behind our camper trailer for about 10km til she could get some traction, she had slid off the side of the road in slow motion ahead of us and jacknifed, couldn't get back up onto the crown even while I towed her. Ranger at Innamincka showed up after a couple of wasted days and told us the Coongie Lake road would probably be closed for a week.

I guess its like the argument about whether vehicles should be restored or just maintained. Some restorations make the object better than the original. That's OK to some people, but to others its no longer original, so they think its actually lost value. Which would you rather have - an original, maintained but battered series 1 or something which has been totally restored and is maybe better than when it left the factory? Personally, I'd rather have one which has been maintained, but not restored. Others might disagree.

I agree with your thoughts Mick, but the difference here is that the re-growth of the bark over the inscriptions is relentlessly obliterating the historical inscriptions. Perhaps looking at your analogy about an antique vehicle, this might be like leaving an original and unrestored vehicle out in the weather to rust away in a few years? Not many old iron enthusiasts would advocate that.
