    almost back to normal!!!

Well after 30 years of chronic pain in varying degrees i am almost back to 'normal' and don't it feel great!!

Still get tired from time to time and still have cold weather niggles but the transformation is so profound as to be light and day.

It took time to find the right specialist advice and eventually ended up with a fantastic rheumatologist who ordered specific MRI 's and pinpointed the main issue. Now this pain journey had recently brought me to a very low and unpleasant crossroads where I was wondering if I could keep working and what future would I have etc etc so to find out that the worsening pain wasn't the beginning of an irreversible permanent incapacitation was a great relief! .

In short, i had suffered 3 wedge fractured thoracic vertebrae one was wedged to half its height but the MRI showed little or no disc or spinal cord damage/ inflammation but 3 costovertabral joints (where the rib joins the vertabrae ) are very traumatized and one in particular has some severe damage. The kind of damage that causes white hot searing pain like a knife blade stuck in my spine...and wiggled about...

There is little that can be done to repair these injuries however the right drugs seem to be working well. A combination of Lyrica and tramadol slow release has all but allowed me to work again and even to start acting like a human being around people again!. I haven't had to touch the endone packet for almost a week and that has been even in these freezing temps.

I'm hoping it lasts but after 10 weeks i have been able to start feeling human again and it is really, really fantastic! !

Pleased to hear that things are going in the right direction for you. Particularly with the physical input required for your line of work.

I too have a marvellous rheumatologist who even takes the time to write out his instructions for us older patients longhand - finding the right advice can take ages for some unfortunately.

    Gday JC ,

Glad to read that a reason for you pain has been found. hopefully you can continue to improve your treatment and feel better than normal.

I watched my mother suffer constant pain from Arthritis from as far back as I can remember , and can only imagine how hard it must be to live with constant pain.

I wish you all the best in the future and hope you continue to feel as good or better.

    Cheers Ean

Hi Justin, I feel for you mate,
I also have chronic pain and take 2 slow release Tramadols and 2 x Tofranils, daily, it makes life easier as long as I take it.

I used to have fortnightly Magnesium IV infusions that also helped a bit.

Glad your quality of life is a bit better.

People don't really understand what people with chronic pain go through as physically you don't show trauma.

    Cheers,
    Mario

That is a good news story. Excellent! Welcome back to the world of humans.

But.....modern medicine can only go so far. I have no idea how it can cure your bout of P38Aitis.......

Great news JC. I get occasional backpain from two compressed discs, I might go a couple of years then suddenly the pain comes and I will have it for a week or so and then it goes. To have bad pain all the time is something that I can only imagine and would not like to go through.

    Justin,thats great news.
Hoping that you can enjoy life some more and keep that black dog away.
RE Tramadol,if I were you I would use it sparingly,I got up to 3 x 200mg slow release tabs a day.You get an immunity to the stuff and it doesnt work anymore.I have plenty but now only use it when I cant move.
Was given a tester bottle with 4 tabs in last time I got a script of a new rheumatic tablet.Hadnt tried them yet.Took 2 today at lunchtime as the back,my carpal tunnel and the foot were annoying me more than just a tad.Thought I will give them a crack, all the pain is gone.My usual diclofenac and panadol osteo hasnt been working.
Most impressed,I will be buying some.
