    "New Horizons" spacecraft nears Pluto.

New Horizons is nearing the minor planet Pluto and will do a flyby on July 14. I'm looking forward to seeing the images. I believe the spacecraft will flyby at ten times the speed of a rifle bullet so the technicians involved will have to have their act together.

The distances out there are shattering for my mind to get around .

Should be worth the wait , just to see another glimpse of stuff we don't really know much about .

so, 16 months,, does that mean the spacecraft knows where we'll be in 16 months?
or is it just powered by AMD?

Hmmm... tink it might just still be one ...
Pluto (minor-planet designation: 134340 Pluto) is the second-most massive known dwarf planet, after the scattered-disc object Eris. It is probably[14] the largest object in the Kuiper belt[h][i] and possibly the largest known trans-Neptunian object by volume. It is the tenth-most-massive known body directly orbiting the Sun
    Although
Pluto was discovered in 1930 and was originally considered the ninth planet from the Sun. After 1992, its status as a planet fell into question following the discovery of the Kuiper belt, a ring of objects beyond Neptune
so, 16 months,, does that mean the spacecraft knows where we'll be in 16 months?
or is it just powered by AMD?
Tried to look up the AMD thing ... ? Think its just the computer processor?
    but...
If it is just a joke , that's ok but if it is something else real , a short explanation would be appreciated for my over active inquiring mind .. lolol
