    Educational Consultants?

    Hello All,

Just wondering if anyone knows how to get a start as an Educational Consultant - Autism? I have heard and read the blurbs of different people who go on a circuit within both private and public schools while they espouse different programs for people with Autism.

How do you get involved in it? Is there a list that different departments of Education have in each state that have different contact people? Such as a list of recommended speakers.

I have a Bachelor of Adult Vocational Teaching with 7 years teaching experience, plus I have Bachelors in Communications; and I am close to finishing my Autism-based PhD. I would like it to be more than just a thesis gathering dust on a library shelf somewhere. I also have years of experience and training in Person Centred Planning working with parents of children with disability.

Oh by the way I have lived experience of the condition ... first-hand lived experience. Plus, I am a parent of two children with diagnosis. They were diagnosed first so therefore I got it from them!

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

Have you been in touch with Aspect?
    https://www.autismspectrum.org.au/

My partner (speech pathologist) works in this area quite a bit, and has found in the past that the assistance you can get from organizations such as Aspect can be a good start for accessing other services for the client, or at least making yourself known to the movers and shakers in the field.

Maybe try contacting your state govt education department and any private school departments.

As the parent of a now adult child with high functioning autism we spent a lot of time battling schools and bureaucracy trying to get them to understand Autism and the unique challenges our son faced. I commend you on wanting to be part of the solution and assist others.
