    tdi glazing

    Hi all I have seen a 2005 disco in sydney and was keen to buy it however my mate has told me of a problem in diesels of their having their bores glazed over and therefore negatively affecting fuel consumption and oil usage .. He bought a 3l surf and was getting 12 mile / gallon with no load on the highway...

    has anyone had problems with glazed bores

    is buying one from a big city smart (which may have had extended periods in traffic idleing)?

    Its a big problem in jap diesels,havent heard much of a problem in the Landy diesels,Im sure you are about to be told that by Disco and Defender owners anyway.
    Tell your mate to get onto Cost Effective Maintence Queensland.They have the products that will cure his Surf for $100.They are excellent products,an oil treatment and diesel treatment.I use them in my Mitsa****ty Trytoo diesel very happy with the results.

    Glazing happens more often on non stressed Diesels....
    LR seem to be under load alot so i guess that is why it does not happen.
    Boost would stop that problems as well

    Glazing isnt that much of a problem provided the engine hasnt been left idling for minutes on end whilst the owner runs around doing things or stands for a chat with the aircon and engine running. I wouldnt worry to much about it, as said above diesel engines under load wont glaze over, stop start city driving is an unlikely cause of it. Matt
