Snow and Ice West of Sydney

Had to go up the farm to feed my cattle on Friday. Early reports said the Great Western Highway and Bells Line of Road were closed. Downloaded the Live Traffic app and kept listening to the radio for updates.

At 11am still closed but by 12 they said open from Lawson to Katoomba. When we got to Katoomba they said the road was still closed through to Lithgow but the traffic was slowly moving.

It seems the biggest problem was not the snow and ice but cars that people had abandoned the night before and where now blocking the road.

Slowly but surely we got through to Lithgow. The GWH was pretty snowed in at Williamson Springs near Bathurst but we slowly poked our way through.

I have never seen that much snow at the farm in 25 years. Kinda pretty but very slippery.

A couple of pics I took on my phone to show the conditions. I would have taken more but there are rules about holding a phone while driving and you didn't want to stop once you were moving.

Anyway the cattle got a couple of bales of lucerne so they were happy.

There was still heaps of snow on the way home which stopped the road being fully open until after lunch on Saturday
