    I love my work.
I work four days a week. I'd like to work less but I have a family of vehicles to support.

Hi Andrew, I too had back issues since an accident in 1977 when I fractured the 5th vertebrae whilst on holiday in Tenerife - just after the 2 747's PanAm & KLM collided on the runway. The bone fracture was not the problem but the unknown at the time damage to ruptured discs on L4/5 & the sacral discs was. Did not find the real problem until 1st MRI in 1989, & then the prognosis was grim & recommended fusions. Luckily the corp I worked for would not give me the sick leave, so I muddled on in lots of pain for 17 years since the original accident until I had the the facet joint blocks at SJOG in Subi, that was 1995 & since no problem. Still stiff in the back but no surgical intervention, and no pain - I think the bits & bobs of disc material sharing space with the spinal cord have degenerated & been absorbed. So just walk/swim lots, & my advice stay away from the orthopaedic surgeons. Oh and drink lots of red wine

Since I retired I have been busier than a one armed bricklayer in Syria!

Might see if my ex boss wants me back so I can have a break.

Don't worry, it goes by very quickly and then, if you're lucky, you get to spend a fairly long time as an ugly fat old fart.

I'm 62 and gave away work 13 months ago and am glad I did.

No, I don't have heaps of money, just "enough" Enough for me, may not necessarily be enough for someone else of course.

I have plenty to do and haven't regretted anything.

The older years? I got sick of it 44 years ago.

I also am about to hit sixty and as much as I would like to retire, with the cost of living rising at the rate it is, I can't see retirement any time soon.

They are now talking about raising GST to 15%.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

I really wasn't sick of working but someone I love very much wanted to see more of me.

I was working away for several years flying home on opportunity.

retirement was best thing I did.

Humm, I hate to say it, but I hated work at 16. That was when I went to Ayers Rock. Decided then I wanted to retire at 45 and travel. Funny how life just doesn't work the way we want.
As most of us "older" blokes know, old school hard work has wrecked our bodies. Having said that, through all the aches and pains I've just spent two very enjoyable weeks modifying/adapting a machine. Just the sort of thing I love to do. On the tools, cutting, drilling, welding, thinking outside the box to make it all happen.
Some clown has suggested we work till we're 70 ,,, got news for you office dweller .
So, plan is to work another two/three years, I'll be 55 then,, then off around the country looking and seeing what the rest do, with maybe a little bit of work in between if I can get it.

If all else fails and I have to come back to earth early, I'll be mucking around doing some car restorations to fill my time
